I guess the Cubs will have to win the World Series this year w/o having home field advantage.

Provided, of course, they even get that far.

Default The NL Central in the Second Half

Okay, fans. Here comes the second half of the season. How do you think things will shape up in the next couple of months?? Now, let's not think October with this question; rather, let's at least look into August and the beginning of September, and tell the world what you think your team, and, perhaps, others, will do in the time up ahead. Be realistic. How do you think this division's race will set up?

September 1st: Cubs on top, Brewers back 5 or 6, Cardinals back 10, rest of division irrelevant.

Default Races May Tighten

I can see the top three teams tightening things up in the next 30 to 45 days. Pitching, many times, usually decides these things. So, I can see Chicago, St. Louis, and Milwaukee tightening the gaps, so much so that they might all be within one to two games of each other in that span. It could get that close. Houston will, at least, get out of last place and maybe try to play spoiler unless this year's team goes on one of those 35-10 tears like they had a few years ago. I don't think this year's team will quite do it because Clemens, Pettitte, Biggio, Bagwell, and Phil Garner are all gone. The Astros, realistically, could be back in fourth place. Unless any of the top teams go through long losing streaks, this is what we may be looking at.

Not a good prospect for the Lovable Losers. 20-26 on the road, 37-12 at home - a slight discrepancy.

Default Astros Update

Roy Oswalt is going to go on the DL following an MRI confirmation. He still has the left hip abductor strain, so Runelys Hernandez will start in his place. The Astros didn't get to use their brooms this past weekend, so they'll try again when the Pirates come to town tonight for a series. And a rested Miguel Tejada is hitting the ball better, going 7 for his last 12, and all he needed was a little rest. He got it, and now he's back.

First of all, welcome! The Brew Crew has a good thing going right now. Let's see what you guys can do in the next seven or eight weeks. You're making the race interesting, that's for sure.

Thumbs up NL Central Fans, We Need You

By the way, folks, if you know of any other Brewer, Astro, Red, and Pirate fans out there, tell them to come on over. If you are out there now, we need more of you on our thread here. Plenty of Cub and Card fans so far. The rest of you, come on. We need more to create more excitement here. It's an intriguing race in 2008 and this division had races going down to the last week, and sometimes the last regular season game, in previous years. Now, please understand that if your team's not in it, don't get discouraged from participating. We do kid around a lot and there is a little trash talk now and then, but don't let it bother you. You can still come on here, especially when your team has a legitimate chance to play spoiler. You can also talk about your favorite NL Central player and how he's doing or potential trade talks or whatever involving NL Central teams.

Come get involved now that we're almost in the final two months.
