Results from Wednesday:
Phillies beat the Braves in extra innings (for a tangent listen to John Kruk's call for the Philies on that Castellanos double play to end the 9th. "Let it go, let it go, let it go" to "Nooooo" to "Yes" to finally "Yagh"), Twins beat the Reds, Rangers beat the Red Sox, Astros beat the Orioles, Guardians got swept by the Royals, Seattle beat Oakland finishing something like 12-1 against the A's this year, D'Backs beat the Giants, Padres beat the Rockies, Rays lost to the Angels, Mets beat the Marlins, Blue Jays beat the Yankees, Pirates beat the Cubs, Brewers beat the Cards, and the Tigers beat the Dodgers.

Tigers and Guardians both have an elimination number of 1 in the AL Central
Seattle and Texas remain on Houston's tail each with an elimination number of 10 in the division.
Reds divisional elimination number drops to 2, while the Cubs drops to 4.
Jays elimination number stays at 1 with the win & Rays loss, the Rays elimination number for the East falls to 10.

The Red Sox elimination number is 1 in the Wildcard (though I've seen they are officially eliminated I'll leave them for now until it's 0) and the Yankees elimination number falls to 3.
In the NL Wildcard, the Mets, Pirates & Padres all win, so their elimination numbers stay at 3, 3 & 6 respectively. The Giants elimination number is 8, Reds are 9, and the Marlins is 10.

In the NL home field battle, Braves magic number drops to 8, Dodgers remains at 4 for the second bye, and the Phillies drops to 8 for the top Wildcard.
Over in the AL, Astros magic number for the second bye drops to 6, and the Rays stays at 3 for the top wildcard.

Braves magic number falls to 9 for home field throughout the MLB playoffs.

A couple of the remaining series finishes on Thursday, and also on Thursday we have the Orioles & Guardians opening up a 4 game series, Washington/Braves starting a 4 game series in DC, Mets/Phillies starting a 4 game series in Philly, Tigers/A's starting a 4 game series in Oakland (this will likely be the only time this weekend that series gets mentioned), and the Dodgers & Giants renewing the rivalry in LA for 4 games.

Cleveland got a stay of execution beating the Orioles. Gives the Twins a chance to celebrate a division title on their home field.

In NL homefield battle, Braves magic number for home field drops to 7, Dodgers drops to 3 for the second bye, and the Phillies drops to 7 for the top Wildcard.

In the overall home field picture, Braves magic number for homefield throughout drops to 7.

The remaining series of note that start on Friday include: Cubs vs. Rockies, Reds vs. Pirates, Blue Jays @ Rays, Brewers @ Marlins, D'Backs @ Yankees, Red Sox vs. White Sox (likely the only day we'll highlight this matchup this weekend), Astros vs. Royals, Twins vs. Angels, Giants @ Dodgers, Padres vs. Cardinals, and the biggest series of the weekend the Mariners @ the Rangers.

My Braves pitching staff is leaking oil...too many injuries, not enough healthy starters.

The bats are fine, defense is fine, but pitching injuries will be our undoing.

I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see the Braves making it to the NLCS this year.

Either SF or SD will be eliminated tonight. They're both at 5 games back with 6 to play.. and one of them has to lose. Cubbies are off tonight.

Credit to the Padres, they actually made it mildly interesting the past 2 weeks or so. Giving just a little late hope to their most diehard fans. Just to dash it all..

I was trying to figure out how I missed this, because.. I calculated that SD was eliminated with a loss last night.

What I didn't consider was that if the D-Backs lost, which they did.. Since they're 2-4 against the Padres.. If they wound up tied for the last WC. Tiebreaker goes to the Padres.

But.. let's be honest. Padres are for all intents and purposes eliminated.

I suspect SF will be, if not tonight.. Tomorrow.

It's really unfortunate that we don't have some of these teams playing each other here the last week of the season. We have the SF/SD series, but.. That's about it.

Of course, we have Arizona/Houston and Tampa/Toronto and Cubs/Brewers.. But.. Arizona and Houston are not really fighting each other for a spot.. And while Toronto and the Cubs are fighting for a spot, the Rays and Brewers are locked in.
