If it is who I think, she hasn't. As amazing as it may seem, I've met people in Puna who have seldom been or never even been over to Kona.

Anyway, for the benefit of the next person to read this thread, there is one more restaurant in the Volcano area I forgot to mention.

It's Pele's Backyard. at the golf course on the same road (Pii Mauna Drive) that goes past it to the winery. It's currently open M-S 11am-5pm, and Sun 7am to 5pm. It's pricy, but pretty tasty. I recommend the Portuguese Bean Soup, a regional specialty.

Lunch Menu

Here's a cute little story about the course, which mentions the local course hazard... wild Nene geese on the fairways... but misidentifies the other birds he saw. Those were not wild turkeys, those were Kalij Pheasants, which are also abundant in the area. The look a lot like turkeys, but have a big ring of red feathers around the eyes.

She had a very heavy (what I would call a Jamaican kinda accent?) maybe that's more a generic island accent. Very friendly though

and yes there will be a next trip, might even be next summer

My query never received any replies on this thread, but I'm pleased to report that we visited Sunday night and we were NOT disappointed!!!

Parking was pretty easy, they have a fairly good sized lot. We walked into a casual and fun outdoor, roofless dining area with a neon lit funky bar, a nice stage and a good sized dance floor. There is also a dining area out a door away from the stage area. We were there for the music and got a great seat by the dance floor.

Service was really good...knowledgeable, timely, friendly and fun. We ordered some really unusual adult beverages and they were just awesome. We decided to do a tour of the apps, salads and soup rather than entrees. Soup du jour was potato leek and we ordered the puu puu sampler. I forget what type of salad we ordered to share but it was awesome. After watching several others order it, we finally ordered a catch of the day entree to share and it was just wonderful.

The music was the highlight, a live band that was incredibly awesome. We don't dance but we really enjoyed watching many couples dance to the great tunes.

This is our new favorite BI eatery and music venue. Too bad it's so far from home that we can't do it unless we board the dogs and stay overnight in that area. We'll be back as soon as we can!

Sounds fabulous, but I'm surprised you didn't get a massage while you were there to round out the experience!

Definitely putting Blue Dragon Restaurant and Spa on my to-do list. Thanks.

Massage is closed in the evening. We were enjoying our resort during the daytime.

Awww, now I'm disappointed. I had this fantastic vision of eating puupuus while sipping on mai tais while listening to the band while getting a massage. Now THAT would be paradise!

I'm kinda surprised no one mentioned the Manago Hotel's Restaurant in Captain Cook. Good food, great atmosphere, popular with locals. Truly a step back in time.

Manago's food is definitely local style. But in the past, say, decade, I'd guess we've not eaten there more than twice. Mostly because I am not a pork chop/mac salad fan. But their food is good if it's what you are after.
