Opps, what wasn't photographed was the specific angle that would show that when a new house came up on the lot next door, the ocean view would be lost.

Lesson learned for that neighbor: seeing for yourself is the most reliable way of know what you are getting. Anything less is leaving much to chance. Want to take a chance on your $$? Then buy sight unseen, and hope for good luck.

We each get to make our own decisions, and we get to ask for advice, and listen to it or reject it as we see fit.
I think there was a movie about the lot he just got his offer accepted on. Oh yes, "A Lava Tub Runs Through It", starring M. Pele and Company.

Oh, you mean that large lava tube that is overgrown at the small opening, so it does not show up from an aerial view, or street shot view?

Don't be negative - Gyva is going to come back to tell us all the positive reasons why a person can't bother with a plane trip to look at property in person on an island with a massive glut of real estate.

As long as you don't have pets, isn't having a lava tube an advantage? And can't you run grow lights down there? What is not to like?

What's a grow light? Is that for drugs or something?

Not sure what a grow light is, something they keep mentioning on Puna Web Farming and Gardening in Puna forum. So I assume it is a gardening tool frequently used in Puna...

Does that mean you aren't going to offer the positive reasons for buying sight unseen?
