Addicted by Zane. This was given to me upon me going on vacation as a must read. I was totally disgusted by the book.

"Sound&Fury" by William Faulkner.
I didn't understand the "deep meaning" of this "world literature novel", although I tried hard.
Found it tantalizingly boring.
Threw away the darn book.(fortunately it was just paperback)

I loved Chuck Palahniuk's Fight Club so I tried one of his other books called Rant. Thank God it was a short book! I managed to finish it but found it gross, unfocused and really a mess.

Chick Lit. Seriously. Last summer at the beach, we were miles from a book store and I had run out of things to read. Out of sheer desperation, I read The Devil Wears Prada and a couple of other things that were on Oprah's Book Club.

OMG. They were the worst-written dreck ever. I mean, I understand books should have entertainment value, and they all don't have to be Proust. But chick lit manages to be vapid and badly written at the same time. Yet women gobble this blather up as if were popcorn. Actually, the analogy holds pretty well, because it has the same nutritional value.

Well, I'm glad someone finally said it above a whisper; OPRAH's list sucks! Most of the time and she lost credibility with our family when that "million little pieces" was NOT researched before bringing that fraud-faker on her show.
She is not Mrs. God, and is not the know-all that ends all. Give us a break; I still try the N.Y. times Bestseller list, and the reader reviews. They are more reliable than the snooty critics that write for a living and critique things they know nothing about. They become jaded, tired and tend to be overly picky when discussing books that most of the public find quite entertaining!

I'll second ANYTHING by Faulkner ... I wanted to throw S&F and Go Down Moses across the room!

I agree with that except for "The Reivers". One of the best, funniest, most entertaining stories ever!

I haven't said it because I didn't want a fight on my hands.

Oprah lost credibility with me when she did what she did with Elie Wiesel's Night, a book I deem almost sacred. Granted, she got people reading it -- for that I am grateful, and as a HS English teacher who used it every semester in a World Lit class, I suppose I felt somewhat validated in that Oprah, O-P-R-A-H, who many think can do no wrong, lauded the work, but puh-lease, I didn't want to share such a touching work with her.

Selfish. Most selfish of me. I know.

Let the beatings begin. *sigh*

"Wuthering Heights" by one of the Bronte sisters is the absolute worst book I have ever read....had to read it in high school.....and the Cliffnotes version was better.

Also "Angela's Ashes" by Frank McCourt was a terrible, boring, impossible book and I'm glad that man ain't writing no more.

Rococo by Adriana Trigiani. I found it very difficult to get into and not at all interesting.
