If everyone remains content, nothing will change. It needs to change. Transit in this country is in a sorry state (and the T is still one of the best). Traffic on the roads is arguably worse. It's asinine to say that the T isn't "worth the trouble." 1.3 Million people use MBTA transit daily (inc. buses, ferries, etc.). Over 900,000 use rapid transit and commuter rail alone. Tell me it's "not worth the trouble" when those commuters are all forced onto the already extremely congested roadways around Boston.

Agreed. On an individual level, it's not worth the trouble for some people. But it's amazing just how bad or unreliable service has to be in order for many of those people to be better off driving. You get a good idea of just how much people are willing to tolerate in order to not drive or pay for parking. It's a statement to just how important functioning public transit is to metro Boston. It's barely functional as it is and still 1.2 + Million people use the system daily. Imagine what it would be like with a system that could be actually described as "reliable."
