There are a few decent spots along that stretch, but I don't know that any of them are Mexican-owned.

Boston simply won't compete with LA, SF, or any of the border states like CA, AZ, NM, TX. I'd also rank it behind NYC and Chicago and probably a bunch of other small and midsize cities. But if someone thinks Anna's is anything better than very average, then they won't notice the difference.
The problem with Texas is this Tex Mex swill people here love. You actually have to look for a Mex Mex restaurant here. Of course, the closer to the border you get, the less this is true.

Taco Loco, that's the place I was thinking of. Yeah, solid place.

Forget even comparing Boston to other cities nationwide. I’ve had better Mexican food elsewhere in MA and New England. Just tried Tacos Lupita for the first time the other day and really liked it. Cafe Azteca in Lawrence is great. Taqueria Cinco in Groton, CT is a fave.

You can’t control what other people think.

So why worry? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm surprised that Tenoch has not been brought up. It has a few locations and great Mexican food. I don't really see the point of complaining in this hypothetical sense.

I've only been to the Tenoch in Davis. It's ok. Better than an Anna's or whatever for sure, but I can't say great. Solid.

He does. OP labs made several threads trying to learn about the diversity/racism of the Boston area

Tenoch makes a good torta, I'll give them that. My girlfriend lived directly behind the Davis location (on Hawthorne St.) when we started dating and we went regularly. Probably 2-3 times per month, maybe more. The tacos and burritos were average in my opinion. Better than Anna's for sure, but any of the Broadway spots were better than Tenoch. I've yet to try Los Amigos in Davis, but it looks pretty standard.

Burritos are, oddly, the worst things Tenoch does.
