Basically. I’ve had a few people chat me up but open with a good natured rib while I’m wearing a Sox hat in other cities. It’s definitely different than someone threatening or yelling insults at someone. I’ve seen the latter too, but almost exclusively with drunken dans at a stadium. Never just on the street.

Reminds me of the time I put on my old Yankees Su@k shirt, as I traveled through the Newark airport a day or two after the 2004 defeat. Nobody said a word, outside a few compliments from what were obviously out of towners as well. I don't think I would have chanced that in the Bronx though.

Because a lot of Dominicans live in NYC, since the 1990s they've been wearing Red Sox hats

They're the only ones besides our Mayor who wears Red Sox hats

Same at a Red Sox-Yankees game I went to last season, and it was Yankees fans giving Sox fans a hard time, not the other way around.

A lot of my hippy-ish friends in NJ/Brooklyn proudly wear their sox hats now surprisingly. Im still in awe the influence Boston sports has in NY over Philly, with Philly being just 70 miles away.
