Someone please kill this thread. If you want a general Boston crime thread that goes on indefinitely, then start one. This thread is just nonsense.
A lot of us like this thread. It has more replies than any other thread ever in the Boston forum.

It's just really really stale in an embarrassingly old Boston perpetual feedback loop kind of way. I get the love of police blotter posts at CD, but it would be helpful to segregate years at the very least, esp given the title, just like real estate is typically done.

There are no years in the title. You're embarrassed by this thread? Wow, some people need a thicker skin

It's not my skin, fear not; my hide is like a rhino's. The lack of the year is the point of my remark, combined with the title: it makes it look like, no matter when the conversation's happening, Boston's police are always and never ever not expecting a rough summer ahead, in perpetuity, in a Groundhog Day kind of way, which drains the effect of "rough summer" because there's just no comparative basis for what is "not rough".

Well summer does tend to be worse in terms of crime than winter. More people out and about. Boston winters can be quieter in terms of crime then all of a sudden it gets hot out and there's all these terrible news stories.

True enough, but that as a pattern is not in and of itself unusual. Whereas the title of the drooling thread implies there's some portentous inflection out of pattern. More prosaic threads that just follow police blotter activity by, say, year (like local real estate data threads) are simpler to digest and don't lead with a misleading implication.

well so far it's been pretty rough in the area i'd say. Sadly it's not misleading.

Was 2021 a rough summer? Was it out of the norm for Boston crime? Are we just gonna go on predicting rough summers every spring, forever?
