From the article:

"An invite concerning the Boston mayor’s holiday party, specifically for “Electeds of Color,” was mistakenly sent by an aide to all members of the Boston City Council.

Some 15 minutes later, that aide, Denise DosSantos, who serves as the mayor’s director of City Council relations, blasted up a follow-up email flagging the embarrassing error.

“I wanted to apologize for my previous email regarding a Holiday Party for tomorrow,” DosSantos wrote.

The white councilors were not supposed to receive an invite."

Wow!

That’s weird. A mayors office party just for non whites?

White folks must really be gettin on her nerves… because that’s not normal. Lowkey-White people do well with Christmas celebrations and they never forget to bring (spiked) cider. I get tired of just egg nog.

Supposedly this occurs annually and is called an "electeds of color" group. Sounds like what's different this year is that it's being hosted by the Mayor's Office, at the groups request.

I don't believe it was to be the only party hosted by the Mayor's Office, and I don't think it's a horrible thing to have such a group. But I also don't think it was a good move for the MO to become involved, for obvious reasons. I would also add that once the blunder was made it would have been more wise to simply let it be open to whomever received the communication, rather than pull a retraction and create this divisive dust-up. Poor management, poor optics, and terrible communications.

Can “elected” have plural form?

Why do they “elected of color” have special party? What kind of other parties by (race, ethnic origins, gender etc) council people have? Asian parties, European?

So disappointing.
Hate does not conquer hate.
What is wrong with people? They get elected on lies and then their true colors seep out.

It's OK to have so-called "affinity groups". In large companies, this is common and encouraged as part of DEI initiatives. Back in GE we had a "Women's Network", "African American Forum", etc. which all held their own mixers and events. The key difference? Regardless of what the groups were called, membership and attendance were open to all, regardless of race or gender. That's where Mayor Wu fell down IMO.
