I heard Forever 21 might think about shutting down the 110,00 sq. ft. Forever 21 store in the SLO Promenade after just being open 2 years. Their large store format is struggling as we don't have a large enough population to support that size store. Macy's said at their Santa Maria store they want to shut down that store and open one up where Forever 21 is now. Now who else agrees that Forever 21 didn't really stand a chance? With few high schoolers in the area, and college students wanting more mature clothing it really didn't work.

SLO is strictly target and wal-mart territory.

Target and Olive Garden are on their way though

Don't forget Sears, Kohl's, Costco, and Home Depot all snuck into SLO.

"The City" keeps up on all the chainstores... The Home Depot in SLO is pretty bad, full of tattoo'd guys and gal that know next to nothing about their products.

If I need technical help, I go to the Santa Maria store, There is a high quality local hardware store chain, Miner's. The help there know their products and how to use them.

San Luis Obispo as the happiest town in America, partly because it is one of the wealthiest towns in America, is a bit above Walmart and Le Target (soft g don't pronounce the final consonant)

Oh, I know there is money in them parts. My folks have a ranch up there. Problem is there just is not enough customers to support a chain. I am involved in construction and have worked on Nordstrom's remodels for years. They announce their sales in the morning before opening. Most stores sell $200,000 and up each day. The Santa Ana store had sales of $300,000 a day. These large chains depend on large amounts of people shopping each day. After a while I and my crew would even recognize the same customers as they did return each day.

If your parents have a ranch up here, they may be friends of mine. mmmm construction management in SoCal? got so drunk on your graduation night that you called and woke up your mother at 3:00 AM, annoying her a little bit?

Well I for one am glad that Forever 21 will be stepping aside for a Macy's. Macy's fits SLO, Forever 21 does not.

The "traditional" Macy's like the one in San Francisco, New York City, and Chicago are premium stores.

For towns with good Macy's stores look at Santa Monica and Santa Barbara.

Why do you think they want to close the Santa Maria store? It's not working. One in SLO would work better.
