They do Cumudgeon but even the issue of Texas having higher property tax is not serious as the home prices are 1/2 of what they are in CA... So, yes.. the %'age is higher in Texas but the home value is less... So, in many cases, you could find yourself paying less total property tax in Texas. Suffice to say, CA does not have a revenue problem.. it has a spending problem.

Those two don't really mesh together. Illegal immigrants keep wages down overall, something unions don't really like.

What I find most disturbing is that most people actually think these rates are high. They are actually low compared to what people in other developed nations pay. In fact, on this topic, the S&P says that Americans are actually UNDERTAXED:

Quote:

What S&P had to say about taxes

Apr 23rd 2011, 20:10 by G.I. | WASHINGTON, D.C.

BOTH Paul Krugman and Ezra Klein argue that America is lightly taxed, relative either to other countries or to history. But why take it from them? Here’s what Standard & Poor’s had to say the day they assigned a negative outlook to America’s AAA credit rating:
The U.S. public sector consistently uses a smaller share of national income than the public sectors of most 'AAA' rated countries, and smaller than those of its closest peers, implying greater revenue flexibility. Political considerations aside, from an economic perspective, the U.S. public sector's smaller share of national income suggests to us there could be room for the U.S. to raise taxes or increase other government revenue while remaining competitive. We believe that this flexibility also enhances the U.S.'s ability to pay.

Of course, our ability to pay isn't the issue. S&P lowered its outlook because it questioned our willingness to pay.

Taxes and the credit rating: What S&P had to say about taxes | The Economist
And Texas' state budget is reeling due to the undertaxation of its residents and businesses. We want to be a first world nation but we dont want to pay for it seems to be our latest motto.

And, you complain of the high taxes in California, yet they are only 3% higher than the "low tax state" of Texas.

Sure wish you boys operated on facts instead of emotion.
Yes, but Texas has no State Income Tax. Factor that in to your comment and you will see that Texas pays far less in taxes overall.

I stated clearly that the difference between CA and Texas was about 3%, that is it, that is the difference in the total tax burden.. total.

I find this so darned humorous, all these people complaining about California's high tax rate, when, it ain't much different than the low tax states

Three percent can easily mean the difference between failure or success.

But to use the logic of it being such an insignificant number then it should be easy to cut programs that span the 3% gap that's being bandied in your posts as insignificant, now shouldn't it.

I dont mind paying a little more in taxes but I am incredibly weary of how our elected officials will spend it.

I dont want anymore money spent on increased bureaucracy or on hiring new state employees.\
