California Bullet Train Project Advances Amid Cries of Boondoggle

Nice to see the governor and legislators, which were voted in by the majority of Californians I may add, give their constituents the finger and go full steam ahead with the train to nowhere. Does not matter, the majority of Californians will vote these people back in anyways, despite the politician's utter contempt and disdain they show to these voters. I leave it to the reader as an exercise to figure out how such a complete and utter failure of democracy came about in such a grand and $100 billion dollar manner.

I think the $100 billion train will only create jobs for the lawyers for the vast quantity of California NIMBYs in the peninsula, farmers, southern CA, and various environmentalists throwing down lawsuit after lawsuit to prevent this from being built. Other jobs include the California politicians who need cushy positions after they term out.

It will create massive number of UNION jobs, which UNIONS in turn will contribute mightily to the re-election of state & federal democrats.

"Sounds like $100 billion of other people's money well spent," said the Democratic National Committee.

This entire project has devolved into nothing more than a political wedge issue that is going to be a rally cry on both sides of the aisle. All of which is in vain, because Lawsuits that will be filed by citizens in both the Central Valley and San Francisco Peninsula will keep this thing in limbo long enough to kill it.

Instead of a bullet train we should just remove the speed limit on freeways and upgrade them appropriately. It would be substantially cheaper and more useful to all Californians. Good luck finding a politician with the balls to propose this.

Especially in areas where everyone speeds anyways and if you do the speed limit you are a creating a hazard.

We might also say it is a "Forced Tragedy". More indebtedness for a bankrupted State. *sighs, bigtime*

I knew it would be a boondoggle, which is why I didn't vote for it.

this train project may be the stupidest decision ever... how are they going to compete? who will ride this train?

I can currently fly LAX-SFO for about $150-200 round trip ($75-100 one way), 45 minutes. Assume a 30 min. extra overhead for security at the airport that's still half the time of the train. Getting to LAX could be quicker than getting to the train station as from what I gather the starting point for this is going to be in the boon docks (Victorville or something)...insane! who is going to ride this thing?

And what will the tickets be? $400 round trip? LMAO!

Common sense should dictate that this is a financially unviable project from every angle imaginable.
