Both freight and passenger train went through there day and night before 1971, I find it hard to believe that can't be done now.

There hasn’t been passenger service since the days of SP. freight is a better money maker by far than passenger rail travel. Tehachapi Pass is the only rail corridor from the southern half of the country into Northern California and sections of that vital mainline are single tracked through the loop area. The freight traffic is too heavy to accommodate passenger service.

Freight traffic has increased substantially since 1971. Since the majority of freight traffic is intermodal, UP has no other alternative but the Tehachapi line since there are clearance issues on the Coast Line for double stack trains

True and they can't make the needed adjustments easily if the number of passengers would not justify it.

Maybe bulldoze or tunnel through some of that terrain might be the answer.

Didn't marcopolo defeat the purpose of his posts, by reviving all those dead threads? Seems annoying.
