And some of the funding was at least the last time I checked Federal.

And yes these things take time. I'd expect it to take 20 years, so what.
In theory, yes. But the last time I checked, the Federal gov't was slashing its budget, in order to accommodate more tax cuts to the rich. There is no fed. money for this type of project. The US can't even keep up with road/bridge repair, and other infrastructure maintenance.

Cost overruns are going to continue to happen and right now they are building the “Cheap Section” in the San Joaquin Valley”. Wait and see how much more the cost will go up when they have to construct the line through the Transverse Range to get in and out of the L.A. Basin. Something tells me this will be a train that shuttles Silicon Valley worker bees from Fresno, Madera, etc. to Silicon Valley more so than taking trips to LA. Perhaps Oracle, Apple, Facebook should be financing this as well.

CA Bullet Train Costs Jump to $77B

A Hyperloop project underway in The United Arab Emirates doesn't even cost this much.

it is by the mile cost not the total size cost. Of course it is easier land to build on there than in CA.

probably a ton of corruption with many levels pocketing exhorbitant sums.. all in a day's work for CA of course since they are experts at squandering taxpayer money. If they run short they will just find something else to tax and steal from the top 20% who pay the vast majority of the taxes.

There doesn't appear to be any slashing. Were you checking fake news sources again?

Unfortunately Jerry is married to the bullet train. Initially, I wanted to vote for the train but didn't because of what I feared would happen has happened.
So many infrastructure issues to deal with as well as water issues that should take precedence over the train.
We'll see if Newsome or Villgarosa (maybe Chaing?), pursue the train or quietly push it to the back burner.

This project needs to be flushed. What a foolish way to spend that kind of money. Even a fraction of the $$ would be better spent on the homeless problem first. Then cleaning the trash that lines damn near every road in this state. Or fixing all the roads in the first place. Or all of the above. It's embarrassing.
