I see many posts about how folks love it there so I'm assuming this violence and crime is centered within the youth crowd or the bar scene, can anyone shed some light on this question.

Thanks in advance.
Let's take the average crime index for the City of Oroville (700) and subtract the US average of 300.

700 - 300 = 400

So, the average crime index for Oroville is 400 points above the US average.

It's simple meth.

its always been the rough spot in that area. poverty and drugs. no work you have the hospital which is not a great one and a casino which brings negative elements with it as well.

It was actually a clean cut, middle class town when I was little and the Oroville Dam and Forebay/Afterbay were being built (Dad was a crane operator, that's why we moved here). Huge projects that lasted over a decade and dumped all kinds of money into the area. Everyone had work, new cars and most of the homes were built in the 50s/60s and early 70s. Downtown was filled with business and the new commercial strip along Oro Dam Blvd was built. It started going downhill towards the late 70s. Basically, it wasn't always like this.

Not to mention a closed community with a lot of white power people living there.

No it isn't. There are Native Americans (Maidu), Hmong, Hispanic and African-Americans in pretty good numbers living in Oroville. I see interracial couples (white men/black women, white women/black men) all the time. It may not be the most sophisticated town in California, but it is very much a live-and-let-live kind of place. There are quite a number of gay people here and no one hassles them. My street has a good mix of all kinds of people.

What about the other towns in that area? For example, Willows, Williams, Orland?

Those three are over 40 miles away from Oroville and off I-5. Oroville is off Hwy 70, closer to Hwy 99.

This is the perfect answer for it. Clear Lake just like Orville suffer the same fate. Tons of crime in those areas are mainly due to lack of work. There has been tons of jobless towns in California thanks to this awful drought we have been through. Now that the rains have come hopefully that will turn around.

Thankfully some other smaller towns like Williams and Winters have been safe from the crime thus far.
