Interesting....
In my county it was the people who brought the plastic bag ban to the table. It was the people who signed petitions, went to meetings, and voted.
Here the government is not being the parent and telling us to do something we don't want to do. We, as a community wanted this. I'm sure that in other areas that the idea to ban plastic bags came from the people and not the government.

I am also having a hard time figuring out how banning plastic bags raises the cost of living. Are you saying that because a person now must pay for a paper bag, this is the rise? Because that is an avoidable expense.

Where and when does it stop? When we run out of oil.
Good point!.. That is how it works... Majority rule... Some folks just can not understand this...

As far as cost of living goes... Heck a plastic bag ban, should be good for local business! A club, at our school has cloth bags with their logo on it they sell to raise funds..

If a ban on plastic bags is put in place, a mandatory charge for paper bags made available by the retailer should not be part of the ban.

And folks getting eColi from canvas bags should have to pay their own full medical expenses associated with the identification and cure for the problem...no charges to ObamaCare.

Hi,

It was one or more environmental groups who proposed it and are supporting the idea. For most a modest cost would be no problem but for those living on the edge financially it could mean buying one thing they need less. With the unemployment rate what it is it can be of concern. Even with the $1.00 canvas bags one must always have them with them or .. go home and get the, using expensive gasoline or .. buy one or more at the store or ..... what do they do?

If they want to get rid of plastic bags, provided free, OK, but why object to paper bags when they are free also and have been sued for years? It makes no real sense, just has nice sounding "sound bites: to push it.

And how do the poor or financially strapped handle it?

You know the bags range in price from 10-25 cents right? Even the poorest people can handle that. it might mean a bit less gumball machine food.

Your concern is commendable. We feel your pain at the thought of the suffering.

I am sure activists would spring up and start a charity or something. People tend to do that.

3 quotes from 1 Leonard comment to respond to for Leonard. A new record.

And folks who get fat and diabetic from eating a diet of fast food cheeseburgers and fries and shakes should pay for their own medical expenses as well ... Readily identifiable problem with simple solutions.

Hey man. Claims examiners everywhere need that job security. Not covering "stupid" would be a bad thing for them, underwriting would love it though.

Boy that would be a great day though:

Dear Sir:

Your claim is denied as there is no coverage for acts of stupidity.

Blah blah blah, legal rights, blah blah...

Spoiler

PS: That's kinda a big image so I spoilered it.

Ever hear of type casting. I was raised poor and I can tell you even .25 per bag counts.
