Rice growing. Piping water to rice fields that would otherwise be near-desert is not only a waste of tax money, but a criminal waste of water. Rice growers who have their own water rights (NorCal) can grow the rice. SoCal and the Central Valley shouldn't be growing rice.

Dave
Do you think the envirowhacks would ever let that happen?

PS several years ago I was associated with a desal startup and as such spent a lot of time trying to drum up business trying to sell to various SF Bay Area water districts.

To make a long story short, NONE of the districts ever went though with any of their desal dreams, some of it because the following winter has higher than average rainfall, and some of which was because of the pushback from those enviro groups and fellow travelling ordinary citizens who apparently were indoctrinated by the liberal left agenda.

I mean, hey we're running out of water but danged if I am going to anything about it. Well, here we are in a serious drought situation ... AGAIN!!!!! and nothing has been done to assure water to an ever growing population.

And there are some who say that's well and good because that will make people leave, and others who say we will have to force people to leave. Amazing ... Only in the Amerika of the liberal left and the envirowhacks ...

Bullshoot.

At least a couple billion more people from all over the planet would move to California in a heartbeat - legally - if they could figger out how to and how to afford it. At least several ten's of millions of American citizens from flyover country still would right now, if they could figger out how to buy a house and get decent paying jobs in the cities here. California didn't grow out of control to become the most populous state for no reason. And it isn't the most populous state based on illegals either.

Depending on the source, the population of California illegals ranges in the 8% maximum range, and falling, currently. And how you think that would stabilize housing prices is beyond comprehension.

We've been accused of being some of those native born Californians who are leaving in droves but the last time I checked, five years ago we left in a Honda Accord.
Isn't Elon Musk working on an electric drove.

Here, I'll make it easy for you dumbasses in the legislature:

1) round up and ship back to Mexico ALL illegals

2) round up and ship out ALL residents born in New York, Boston, Detroit, Minnesota along with their families.

3) round up and ship out every environmentalist who has ever opposed any water project in this state. And their families. Which is, like, ALL of them! Time for these people to own up to their stupidity.

I'm not kidding.

PS we STILL need more water storage facilities.
Gosh, You make these folks sound like weeds in the Garden of Paradise.

So we readers can safely assume you favor "An ever growing population"? Which, by definition, is progressive.

Btw:
Do you enjoy being able to breathe the air in California?
Thank an envirowhack.

Do you enjoy public coastline?
Thank an envirowhack.

Do you enjoy drinkable water?
Thank an envirowhack.

Do you enjoy that over 50% of the beauty of California is preserved for the public's pleasure?
Thank an envirowhack.

Do you enjoy doubled vehicle fuel economy in the past 25 years reducing reliance on foreign oil?
Thank an envirowhack.

Etc.

Thank an envirowhack.
No, thank President Theodore Roosevelt for setting aside the National Forests in the early 1900's. And they were preserved for more than the public's pleasure.

Here is a book on the climate history of California over the past 10,000 years.

There is a chance that this drought is the "new normal" for California. The history of climate in California suggests that the past 100 years have been much wetter than historically normal.

L.A. got nearly a quarter of an inch yesterday and it almost never rains here in August. There were also a few days of rain here and there in L.A. area in July as well. El Nino is our friend. We're off to a very early start and I wouldn't be surprised if the drought ends this winter.
