Whether it's the drought, the poor schools, the unaffordability of housing and everything else. It seems like if you don't think California is Heaven on Earth people think you are crazy there.

Why? I have friends from states in the South, Midwest and Northeast and while most of them have some pride in where they live and still support their sports teams, they are willing to admit that their home state sucks or is below par in some regards. One of my good friends is from Indianapolis and he's more than willing to admit that Indiana kind of sucks in many ways. I have another friend from Ohio who also hated it there even though he is still a fan of all the Cleveland teams.

Californians on the other hand seem to feel a need to be #1 in everything. It's really like "America's America".
I only get annoyed when it's a recent transplant (one who hasn't been living here for at least a decade) complains about California and/or the city I live in. I think they're stupid for moving here if they aren't happy here when this state typically isn't a state that's affordable to live in. Who come here and stay here if they don't like this state? They're almost always the ones who ruin this state.

It's different when a person who is long-established here complains about the changes that are almost always the result of transplants who are homesick and want to make this state similar to the place they fled. I don't want to live in NYC, but the city I live in through the years keeps turning more into like what I believe NYC is like. Down to the rude, aggressive people with NYC accents heard yelling out windows in traffic and making smartass remarks to strangers in public around here adds to this nightmarish reality.

Well, if you knew the answer why did you start the thread and ask the question?

I had a flat tire on I-280, pulled way over across the shoulder and onto dirt. I'd forgotten my cellphone at home, so I walked back to the nearest callbox. That done, I got back into my truck. Another car stopped ahead of me and two guys got out. I did not get a friendly we're-just-here-to-help-the-little-lady vibe. I locked the doors and kept the windows rolled up. Told them AAA was on the way, repeatedly. Finally they left.

I guarantee you that no one wants someone from another part of the country belittling, criticizing or making fun of where they live. To claim they would just take it lying down and that Californians are unreasonable for getting their hackles up is ridiculous. Also, I've never met anyone here who got "furious" or annoyed because I chit-chatted with them while standing in line or asked them a simple question. I don't understand the point of such threads and to be honest they're borderline trolling.

I can't speak for other areas of California, but the area I live in used to be filled with mostly friendly & sociable people before this place became so full of transplants who act paranoid & unsociable toward people who don't have their tastes & appearance or aren't in their class. I'm not blaming the conditions on all transplants, usually the poor & struggling ones are friendly & sociable. It tends to be the wealthier ones who are overly "professional" types & cellphone zombies who are cliquish and think everybody who doesn't have their tastes or appearance are "shady". They don't even have restraint from posting their paranoia, prejudice & hostilities on their Twitter feeds, Instagrams, web blogs and on forums.

I have lived in Chicago and nearby, California, and now have been in Texas for several months after my job were moved there. I can tell you that Chicagoans are way more sensitive than Californians.

Texans are a whole different planet of pride. There is Texas-Edition this and that, and "Made in Texas by Texans for Texans" labeling on many products. Many think that the Texas flag has special privileges to fly at the same height as the US Flag, where in reality, there is no US law regarding that, and Texas Flag Code codifies deference to the national flag. I know a lot of that from the last several months, but I learned about the defensiveness of Texas by talking to expat Texans while I lived in IL and CA.

Texas is like CA, big and diverse as to topography, but is different in many ways and some are good and some are bad. In Alaska is just flat tooooo cold for me.
What? I repeat, what? Where did people take the time to yell at a tire changer? Sounds like you got a flat right outside a High School.

Also, Texas has varied topography, but it doesn't seem like it because of the distance you must travel to see the variations, and how much if it is hidden behind trees.

CA, the most populated and most diverse State in the US.... If there is one thing we aren't #1 in is HATE. The only people crying about CA are Republicans and idiots who never visited CA and depend on the Retardican controlled media for their bias opinion on CA.

Hate Map
There has been California bashing for decades. I don't know when you think Republicans got control of the media, but conservative radio really didn't get traction until the 1990s.

You don't make a good point about lack of hate in California with your terms "Retardican" and "sheeps", and the mentioning the education level of the south. Maybe I should think you are a racist since the Southern states have the highest percent of Black population but you say they are uneducated sheep.

By the way, that map was of a collection of slurs, not racism. There is plenty of racist speech that uses generalizations about behavior, which is not measured there. That is done more than the slurs are actually used. An example would be "Retardican" which you want to put a stigma on Republicans but put it in terms of a developmental disability. It would be equally bad to use the term "libturd" since it is derived from "*******" which is equally ignorant to your terminology.

All in all, you should examine whether you are an enlightened coastal intellectual or a name-calling basher.

Pretty much, but zooming in shows just it is more clusters and hotspots. It is suspicious that highly populated areas seem not to have their share of Archie Bunker types.

Well, we aren't #1 in rainfall. Opps, I think we are somewhere in Humboldt County (extreme NorCal).

You should do an experiment and post the original post in the Texas forum, change the names to Texas and see what happens.

In my experience Mass. has the most defensive/inferiority complex people. Texas people have a lot of pride. California people have a lot of pride. Chicago and New York as well.
