Why do Californians have a tendency of getting mad if you say anything negative about California? (transplants, how much)

Well furious is an exaggeration, but I've had people scowl and look severely annoyed for very innocuous, non-intrusive things like opening a door for them. I think it's a distinctly American thing, not that it happens often everywhere in the country.

Why? I have friends from states in the South, Midwest and Northeast and while most of them have some pride in where they live and still support their sports teams, they are willing to admit that their home state sucks or is below par in some regards. I have another friend from Ohio who also hated it there even though he is still a fan of all the Cleveland teams.

Californians on the other hand seem to feel a need to be #1 in everything. It's really like "America's America".

People from the south aren't as educated and are more easily controlled by Govt. The Govt can shut these sheeps up by simply waving a flag and promoting Patriotism. People from the South and East Cost are also the most racist and hateful people you will ever meet.

CA, the most populated and most diverse State in the US.... If there is one thing we aren't #1 in is HATE. The only people crying about CA are Republicans and idiots who never visited CA and depend on the Retardican controlled media for their bias opinion on CA.

Try this: If your state is one that is ever on peoples' minds, then people pay attention. if not, then no.

This post is a pretty good summation of why Californians get annoyed with people criticizing their state. Your whole post was just base stereotyping and bashing of the people and the state without any facts just a bunch of hyperbole. I've never had anyone get "furious" at me for talking to them. Maybe you are the problem? Maybe Californians don't get mad at EVERYONE who criticizes their state, but maybe people like you are the problem?
