Arcata has hot pot restaurants too.

Most places have restaurants like that. Sf just charges more.

Someone moving there could use the 800k saved by buying a house to start your own restaurant.

So someone would give up their city life to move to a tiny town in the middle of nowhere to throw their life savings into a type of restaurant most locals dont even know about the cuisine? Sounds like a guaranteed way to ruin your life and go bankrupt.

Yeah & just because they are saving money on a house payment, it does not mean they have it sitting under the mattress to hire a Chinese chef.

Perma Bear, where do you live & how old are you ( within a few years is fine )

Considering many citizens are hip young college students from across the state or even outside of it i would say yes they'd know.

For real?

Take a look at the elementary school ratings for some of them. Horrific. I know, some may say "but I don't have kids and don't care." or "why look at just the elementary schools?". You see, elementary schools are more local. They speak to the neighborhood. Show me a neighborhood with elementary schools rated that low and I'll show you a sucky neighborhood that most people will avoid. I recommend to everyone that they check out the schools regardless of whether or not they have kids. Rotten schools are often synonymous with rotten neighborhoods. Note that I said "often", not always.

As for Arcata…well that's basically the Appalachia of CA. It's also the green bible belt of CA. People there worship the almighty cannabis plant more than a southern baptist preacher worships God. Surely I'm exaggerating….just a little.
