It's ironic that with all my dealings to date with my own cancer dealings, my daughter's very lovable boxer dog, was diagnosed with cancer yesterday. This next Friday I have to take it to have its Left leg removed up to the shoulder.
This is yet another way that cancer affects us. I'm sorry Starlite. I hope the puppy can adjust well.

Thanks, he's about 12 years old, daughter got him from the pound about five years ago, had his left eye scratched out by a cat when he was a puppy, and when they did the X-rays for the cancer, he has birdshot in him as well so somebody shot him as well.
Maybe she should change his name to "Lucky".
After all this, I think I got off easier than the dog!
I hope your Dad gets to feeling better Tony. Make sure his Oncologist knows how fatigued he is. It's pretty much par for the course with chemo and radiation though.
He knows this. His fatigue is from the strong chemo.
My spouse was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in October 2009. He's been through surgery, radiation, and three different chemo cocktails, with almost an entire year of good health between chemo #1 and #2.
It looks as though now the cancer is outpacing the drugs. We're taking it each day as it comes, and enjoying as much as is left to us.
I'm sad to tell you that my husband died two weeks ago. I miss him like crazy but one thing I'm thankful for is that he was in no pain and was never truly incapacitated except for in his last few hours.
I've begun volunteering for the local chapter of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network; I have to do something with all this sudden free time I have. This Sunday is the PurpleLight National Vigil for Hope in many cities across the country:
Another thing I'd like to do is explore the idea of somehow improving the direct services offered to cancer patients while they're undergoing treatment. I was floored to discover that there is very little assistance available to patients unless they're almost destitute; some of you have mentioned the same concerns. We'll see how far I get!

So sorry for your loss of your husband.
Hope you can find some peace in your volunteering to help others!

I extend my sympathies.
Thank you for taking a stand and wanting to pay it forward, that is an excellent way to remember your husband.
This was tacked on the wall of the infusion room where my husband was treated; thought I'd share:
What cancer cannot do
Cancer is so limited
It cannot cripple love,
It cannot shatter hope,
It cannot corrode faith,
It cannot eat away peace,
It cannot kill friendship,
It cannot silence courage,
It cannot invade the soul,
It cannot reduce eternal life,
It cannot destroy confidence,
It cannot shut out memories,
It cannot quench the spirit.
