Wife got automatic litter box for Jack for Xmas. I dunno if the thing will really work long term, but it is absolutely hilarious. He jumped in and used it first time and every time since Xmas morning. The really funny part is that about ten minutes after use it automatically goes through this cleaning routine which sounds like a computer printer and Jack can hear it from anywhere in the house and he leaps up and races back to his room to watch it. It stops after about 20 seconds and he will sit there on high alert for half an hour to see if it will do the cleaning cycle again. I'll get some photos up eventually.

I'm glad that's his reaction.....I tried one a few years back and it scared my cats so they wouldn't use it. Back to the old fashioned box....

If he does decide he likes it, I think you'll find it a very good investment. I can't use mine, due to lack of space for it, and I definitely miss it.

It is funny to see how they adjust to it. We no longer use ours because we usually have too many fosters to allow it to work properly so we had to go to storage containers, but I do remember the first foster we had and buying that box. He had figured out that it had a motion sensor and for a while there, that box was scooping every couple of minutes because he would stick his paw in the sensor path and then pull it out and just watch it clean away. Cats are very smart and evidently very easily amused!

I sat around in his room for a while tonight to see if he was going to use the box but no luck. He usually goes at night. The photos may take a while. I'm walking around the house with a camera waiting to shoot a photo of the cat using the box. There is something odd about this, I think.

What's odd? Come on...you're speaking with animal people here...we've ALL been there.

Somehow he slipped past me and used the box. But when the thing went into its cleaning cycle I was right there and got a few shots of Jack which I will post up later after I figure out what is wrong with my PB account.

Maybe over the weekend I'll put a infrared motion sensor in front of the box so it chimes in my room off when he steps into the box in his room. Hmmmmm. I think I may have too much time on my hands.
