I always liked Ellen Barkin. What happened to her? She was so good in Diner and The Big Easy. It can't be lack of roles due to aging...she's played mothers in other small films.

Many actors got into the habit of "working for a paycheck" when their popularity began to wane. See Joan Crawford, Joseph Cotten, and Ray Milland. Sir Laurence Olivier made a number of movies playing parts that were WAY beneath him to support his theatre. By doing so, some of them ruined their reputations.

I like her too. Love her sense of humor. She probably won't ever have to work again unless she chooses to since her divorce from some uber wealthy dude that netted her more money than she could ever spend.

Hey guys ...go to IMDB.com....(Internet Movie Data Base) -- or google "IMDB actors turned down roles"

There's a GREAT list of actors and lots of roles they turned down..
Just a couple to whet your appetite....
Some of the various casting would have changed the movie COMPLETELY, in other cases either actor could have done the part just the same.

-- Christopher Reeve turned down "Pretty Woman"... and Meg Ryan AND Michelle Pfieffer turned it down too before Julia Roberts got the part
-- Nine words for you: Mickey Rourke as Alex Foley in Beverly Hills Cop?"
-- James Caan was offered "Superman" (I have no words....)
-- Warren Beatty turned down the part in "Misery" that James Cann eventually did.
-- Tom Hanks turned down "Shawshank Redemption" and Tim Robbins did the movie.

Wentworth Miller! He's so gorgeous, he should be a huge star by now.

A PERFECT example. Why is he not THE hot hunk that agents and the hollywood machine are promoting?
Sooo much of acting success is just plain luck.

I've been watching some old "Marcus Welby, MD" shows on Cozi....soooo many 'know the face, but not the name' character actors were on that show AND some real legit stars.

Saw one of my faves today: Brenda Vaccaro.

Patrick O'Neal was also in that episode.
