Assuming he follows his treatment and stops doing drugs and drinking he could live a relatively normal life and live for decades without ever getting AIDS.
The possibility of transmission is low if the infected person is responsible - which has never been a word used to describe the behavior of Sheen.
He probably was coached by his lawyer. If he would have said, "I don't know - it's possible I infected others," he'd have foolishly exposed himself to liability claims. Some people will probably still go after him, but he's smart to set up a proactive defense.
We may end up getting into a discussion about "simple" v "gross" negligence.
When in 2011 did he find out? Was it before the "goddesses" and "winning" or after that? The exact timing of when he found out is crucial to the women affected by this news and the potential of lawsuit that may be filed. Now both "goddesses" claim that they did not know until recently. He said that it was "impossible" that he transmitted the disease to anyone. How would he know how long he had it before the diagnosis? Matt Lauer needs to improve his interviewing skills.
Ugh, I really wish celebrities didn't have so much power/influence in our society. For some, Charlie's announcement seems to only have reinforced their own stereotypes and allowed them to make light of a very serious issue. Hopefully, the conversation can steer away from Charlie and move toward HIV itself and facts/prevention. Just because you don't see it everyday doesn't mean it isn't effecting Millions-including children born into this World with it. Not everyone with HIV has lived so recklessly.
That is very true. It's a virus. Mercifully, in the west we have medications that allow victims a much better prognosis than before.
If you are a rape victim in sub Saharan Africa who has contracted the disease? Not so much. A baby in such a situation? That child wil likely live a short, painful life in an orphanage before succumbing to the virus.
I've known two people who died of AiDS related complications.
Sheen is a sociopathic scumbag. We've known this for years and years. His joke isn't funny anymore.
I had a good friend who just died from Hep C. Although he was in show biz, he was a good family man. You can get it from just about anywhere, including tainted food. My understanding is that the "cure" is not covered by insurance, and is unaffordable for almost everyone.
Not tainted food. That is Hep A. Hep C is blood bourne, and a lot tougher than the virus that causes AIDS. It's much easier to catch because it survives on surfaces.
Do not share needles or swap body fluids, obviously. But when dealing with hep C, one has to be careful of toothbrushes, razors, dried drops of blood, etc.
The new treatments can cure it. They can cost upwards of $50,000. Some plans cover it. Some do not.
Don't you love the for-profit health insurance system?
There are tons of kissing scenes with actresses in Anger Management. I wonder if they knew about his status? He is not really putting them "at risk," but I still wonder if they knew.
How did he ever get on television in the first place? He's the most disgusting-looking creature imaginable. I can't stand to look at him for even a split-second.
Having actor Martin Sheen for a father, Hollywood nepotism hurrah.
