Is installing hurricane panels something people are doing? (We live in Carolina Park).

I saw some pickups heading out to the islands yesterday with plywood. Per usual, your biggest concern is crap your neighbors leave outside. Once it starts to blow, who knows where it will go.

I agree with teh point abut people not being able to afford 5 nights in a hotel. That's why they open shelters.

If you are getting out, SCDOT is a good source for traffic info. Also, they have an iPhone app to show you road conditions.

Thanks for info on SCDOT and app. I will install today. Just googled, and as I thought there are no shelters which accept animals in Charleston.

With the storm trending offshore we are more than likely going to hunker down. Local mets today stated tropical force winds across the entire area with possible hurricane condition. It's looking more and more likely we are not going to be dealing with a Cat 3 storm here. I am going to monitor it for the rest of the day.

We're thinking in that direction, too. With 2 dogs, a cat, and my son in a wheelchair, sometimes getting out is more of a nightmare than staying. We're pretty set with generator hooked into house power, propane water and stovetop, and all the 'usual' storm items.

We are thinking of waiting it out to see how the track looks. The model this morning looks promising. Some models even have it looping around, strengthening, and hitting Florida again. We have natural gas stove and some water and canned goods, and a place to stay in CLT if the power doesn't come on quickly. Will definitely monitor all of the models going forward. I-26 is already a cluster I hear.

I don't know what to do. Haley is having a news conference at 9am so waiting to see what she says or if anything new.

I have a room reserved for Thurs night but nothing lined up for Friday night. I really hate to leave but after Hugo, I just can't stay when I'm surrounded by huge trees and a long long long dirt driveway surrounded by trees on both sides.

Neighbors are leaving today for 2 nights. They took both of their dogs.

I have up till midnight to cancel my reservation before being charged so hopefully there is a clearer sign of what this thing is doing before then.
