I rent in the 1st ward and you cant beat walking to the office, I even come home for lunch some days. Maybe the stats tell a different story but I don't notice crime here, then again we moved from Brooklyn NYC and i am sure the crime rate was allot higher there.

One thing i would say is that there is little retail around uptown, so while you can walk to uptowns bars and restaurants, simple things like finding a newspaper on a Saturday morning is harder.

All this advice is great, we're lining up places this weekend, one in 1st ward, 1 in south end, 1 in elizabeth I think, and one near Myers Park...I think after seeing all them and getting a feel for each neighborhood we'll know which one is right for us!

N. Davidson and Garden District is not terrible, just wouldn't necessarily been my first choice.

When that area was rebuilt years ago after the projects were torn down a certain amount of the housing had to be set aside for people to live there from the previous projects. They pay according to income while others like yourself pay the going rate.

Problems that have occured in that area since seem to stem from the "project mentality" of some of those who come to visit their old friends who now live in such nice surroundings.

But see it for yourself and talk to anybody and everybody you can while there to get a feel for the area

Good to know, we want a place that is pretty close to restaurants and shops but still kind of residential, where we live in Boston now it's a good mix of the two. We live in a house (the top floor) but we're close to a few pizza joints, a chinese food place, and a few other things. From what I'm reading Dilworth, Myers Park, or Elizabeth might be where we focus our search this weekend!

When we came down to look around, we mostly focused on East and South Charlotte, you may very well be showing us something new as well
