but we are possibly moving ahead with the international adoption process in the next year and I would like to get a head start of some of the items for the paper chase!
They need a set number of the home value and then what we have left on our mortgage.
I wouldn't worry about being so exact on your home's value. I have done 2 international adoptions. The amount of paper work they require is daunting. I remember panicking when we were adopting our daughter because we needed to show pictures of every room in the house and the bedroom where she was going to sleep was in the process of being renovated. I thought for sure they would say no! But the reality is what we have in this country is so much more than wherever you may be adopting from. They just want to make sure you can provide for the child. Good luck! There is a lot of paperwork, alot of reports but so worth it. Oh the moment that baby is put in your arms. Heaven!!!
Thank you so much!!! I am worrying!! I still have paper curtains in two rooms and all I can think is that they will say what are those!!!!??? We moved in late last sumemr and there is still a lot to do..but the bedrooms look great!!
What country did you adopt from? What agency did you use? How about for your home study?

We adopted in '06 and they didn't question how much our house was worth when we told them what we thought.
How long ago did you buy your house?
All they really want to know is that you are financially stable. So, whether your house is worth $150K or $550K it really doesn't matter, they just want to know what your debt to income ratio is and if you can afford everything you currently have.

I also adopted internationally (Guatemala). I best-guessed the current value of my house. No one expects you to spend another wad of cash on an appraisal. They are just trying to get an idea of whether you are financially solvent. Good luck in your adoption.
Thank you! It is going to be a long process but we are hoping for the best! I don't mind if it is long and tedious as long as I have a baby in my arms in the next three yrs.!
