I have never lived somewhere where so many drivers so frequently run red lights. It is a common daily occurrence here. I don't know what is wrong with these people.

Once I had a green arrow left turn light when I was the first one at the light. A little voice inside my head said "don't go"' so I waited a few seconds and didn't immediately turn. Right then a Ford F-350 came barreling through the intersection at 60 mph. If I had turned I would have been smacked and possibly killed.

Today I was the first at a red light and my phone rang. In that split second to look to see who was calling, my light turned green, but people with the red light were still coming through.
I was saved by the bell.

Another problem is the different speeds on 85. Trucks and busses go 50 in the right lanes while other people are easily zooming by going 90 (I'll be going 80 and they pass me like I'm standing still).

It's horrible to drive here.

Lots of places with worse red light runners than Charlotte. Baltimore for example.

Great thread for total conjecture and no statistics.

Maybe some of these people have never experienced I-95 North from Richmond to Boston.... any of those cities, it's a zoo and dangerous. Charlotte roadway antics are mild compared to that and labeling any set of city/state drivers as horrible is absurd. As traffic volume increase all roadways become more hazardous and drivers lose patience. I've seen it all while living in DC such as cars driving on sidewalks, road rage fist a cuffs, etc. Charlotte is a piece of cake compared to those places.

There are statistics for red light citations going down from 2015 to 2016, yeah right, so much for statistics.

How does one quantify with statistics the subjective attribute if "horrible" in the OP's title?

The OP seemed to be asking about accidents per capita, which should be fairly easy to find. As expected, most whiners that responded are whining more about minor behaviors they find annoying in their self centered commuting.

This survey ranks Charlotte as a top 20 city in the country to drive based on safety and infrastructure.

As you've implied, it can be difficult to measure or determine what constitutes "horrible", but it's not impossible.

Looks like based on reported incidents, Charlotte is 147 in Allstate ranking of "Best Drivers"...nothing to crow about.

Would it really kill some of the drivers around here if they could turn their freaking lights on at night? You'd think this would be common sense but nah.

Also, please people if you realize you are in the wrong lane and need to turn at the intersection, please just keep driving and make a U-Turn.
