You are correct. It is about half way. Are you thinking - something in re: to education/certification or labs/research?

I'm thinking interns, graduates & possibly teachers.

UNC Charlotte's engineering school is hosting a green building seminar. They also have a school of architecture.

Site Map @ UNC Charlotte

Guilford has an environmental program. Quaker elementary & secondary schools are, hands down the finest schools in the metro Philly area. many presidential children go to Sidwell Friends in DC. Keep in mind that Haverford College & Bryn Mawr College are Quaker schools, as well as Guilford College.

Guilford College

Mikey was right. There was something else.

OP here. We are a full service green building services company FYI to everyone posting out there. We provide development management, Rehab, Retrofit, Remodel, and Redevelopment of existing buildings, architecture, engineering, and construction management services, LEED AP and Energy Audit services, development of GREEN commerce centers, Green R and D Parks, and Green mixed use developments. We are also going to have a division that does E-Commerce and potential retailing of Green Building products. Essentially, we are a full service GREEN BUILDING services company and will only work on projects that will be LEED certified through our efforts. We plan to be international as there are almost 40 countries ahead of the U.S. in sustainability. We are looking at Mooresville for several reasons, Lowe's-which is a competitor in a small way to our offerings, but does compete directly with our proposed E-Commerce department and retail division, as well as my desire to be on or near a lake and near mountains. Hope this helps clarify a little, so how does this figure in your assessment of Mooresville being a good place to land?

Mooresville has to be your perfect place. It's between UNC Charlotte & Guilford College. Both schools can provide you with the specialists that you will be needing for certain positions.

Plus, the lake side of 77 is very limited by geography and there's not going to be any substantial development down the Brawley peninsula no matter how wide they make the road - I guess they could relieve more traffic with some type of bridge up North towards Statesville off the peninsula. Regardless, until something happens it's set for a while.

This leaves the East side of 77 or North up Perth towards Statesville (TONS of land up there for development)... Heading further West on 150 into the Lincolnton area would likely be too rural for much of the Mooresville crowd.

I'd put my bet on the East side and MGSD... personally. "Big thing" is subjective, but if I was looking to make a purchase up there, I'd be shopping the East side while the values in the Point and the Farms continue to get crushed.
Can I ask why you say that?

If you think the "Mooresville crowd" (assume you are making a generalisation about people that live west of I77 near the Lake) would find North and West too rural then you could also say that many wouldn't live over on the east side of I77 either, as the Lake is the attraction.

Don't forget that there are a whole host of other older and more "rural feel" subdivisions on the west on I77, not just the Farms and the Point!

As for the next big thing- you may have to eat your words. I think Mooresville has much more to offer than other towns at the North of the Lake, but it's a personal opinion.

Yeah - if people will "fight through the traffic" to get there.

Yes & no. It is a huge complex, one that can easily support this type of business & it will be good to see this space finally being used. I'm just not so sure that it's the right location for what WOW's vision is. It's not directly off a major highway for one. I do hope they plan on having more than one entrance into the place. The main entrance will be on 115 which is one lane in each direction, bordered by the train tracks, so traffic might be an issue at times.

There's 2 furniture stores in the downtown area already. Don't know how happy they're going to be when WOW opens. On the other hand, it might be beneficial to some of the other shops & restaurants in DT Mooresville.

I haven't seen anything about jobs there yet. Don't know how many people they'll be hiring.

Seems that WOW have a bit of a history

WOW Furniture Store Under Investigation - NewsChannel 5.com - Nashville, Tennessee -

They only opened their first store in 2008.

Surprised that there's nothing on their website about the new store which, according to an article in a Statesville paper, is due to open in May.

Agree with Rosie about the downtown potential traffic issue. Wasn't that mill going to be turned into condos at one time, maybe 2-3 years ago?
The 2 furniture warehouses and Gibson brothers are probably less than pleased, but personally have found that the 2 warehouses aren't that cheap anyway, so might create some competition.

Well it looks like no one else is going to give a summation, so I will, which is a bit weird, since I live elsewhere in the metro area. I would love to argue on behalf of my area, Kings Mountain, which is just west of Gastonia. Between the 2 towns, we could meet or beat Mooresville on all fronts (including a lake & proximity to mountains) until you get to the 2 most important aspects, for you: being in the same town with Lowes and Mooresville's proximity to UNC Charlotte & Guilford College, which can feed your company with specialists as the company grows. Early on, in the thread, Ani gave a list of 10 reasons to move to Mooresville. It stands on it's own merits.

I hope you do pick Mooresville & I wish you success.

Yes, the Mill was supposed to be made into condos & retail 2 yrs ago, they had plans drawn up & everything & then it just died. I'm not sure why, but I think it had to do with their financing & the drop in new construction in the area.

I haven't been in Brawley's Furniture Warehouse recently, I usually stop in to see what they have about every other month or so. It is hit or miss, but I like that place. I've purchased several pieces of furniture from them in the past at good prices.
