what BS. you just don't get it, do you, compact: what you see is not getting "too big for their hats" but getting "too PO'd by the absurd trolls and chicagophobes here." do you have any idea what a turn off this subforum has become due to those with total negativity who make reading here incredibly painful? What you see us registering through those "big hats" is a helluva lot of disgust. Chicago has faults (who doesn't) and they need to be corrected. but if you don't come here with at the very least a favorable or even neutral disposal towards the city, why are you here (the generic "you"….not you, compact)?

then again, Chicago has about as much hometown pride as any city anywhere. maybe even more. so, yes, we do sing its praises. and that's not so bad: i think what homeowners feel about their city tells you much more about it than what out-of-towners think.

this thread is about as good of a thread to show what is really going on now: look at how many different people are delivering the same message: we're fed up. and we've had enough.

My friend, I was being sarcastic and gently digging at NOLA. Peace

I don't see much of an issue with chett's posts. Do you want everyone to fall in line with "OMGODZ AMAZING! BUIIILLDDD BUIILLLDD!" The guy's critical of the architecture, the place where it might be built and how its overall existence will impact the skyline. That's all normal and reasonable complaints when this stuff happens.

That could be said of literally any building in any city anywhere in the world. Skylines change, cities change, regardless of how difficult people choose to be.

About 4 years ago when I moved out of that neighborhood condo sales were very slow with many dark windows in the big buildings, and those two monsters at 12th St. and Indiana were in big trouble. Have things turned around since?

I am all for it if its done well. Its not in Grant Park. Its about time the near south side continued its development. I love the supertall buildings provided they are done by world class architects.

It will remain a front lawn - the buildings are not going to be *in* Grant Park.

From that angle, on the ground, the truth is that it likely will be barely noticable from SE of the Field Museum. I don't know how much time you spend over there, but having just come back from the AIDS run at Soldier Field I'm pretty confident not much will be visible from SE of the Field Museum, and in the spots where it might be it will still be a relatively small portion of the skyline.

The lot in Chet's photo is for the 1,000 foot tower, and the buildings on either side of the lot will *not* be demolished, they will remain. The building will actually slightly cantilever over the building on the left.

The other super-tall proposal - the one with two towers - is on a different lot, the SE corner of Michigan and Roosevelt.
