There is certainly no shortage of young, in-shape people in Chicago. It sounds as if the city is just lacking the ONE thing you like to do to stay in-shape. You really should have created a thread about that single topic. Better yet, do something to advocate for that single topic in Chicago, or move to someplace that has it. Generalizing your unique niche fetish to entire demographics of the city just makes you look silly.

So you mean London and the cities I mentioned here in the US are trying to cater to that few people who they think are like me in their cities? I'm not that special .

This is like complaining that Utah doesn't have good surfing or Florida doesn't have good snow skiing.
I'm not demanding anything I don't have the authority to demand in the situation. Regarding your other point I meant that Chicago's a bit better in general than those other countries are listed in the US. I'm also tied to this location for certain reasons

Should I be ashamed that I prefer healthy and exciting outdoor activities over beer gatherings , walking Paths, repeated museums visits and Punk and Electronica Fests?

I've seen the museums, once was enough. I've seen the scenery and skyline. I've been to the few Fests that aren't geared toward teenagers. So these days when I get downtown I always ask myself "now what"? Sure the scenery of Chicago would make an
exciting outdoor activity downtown a Greater experience but that's a big if.

And why does everybody seem to be obsessing over volleyball ?there was a small central IL town of about 300 people near where I lived in the past which had beach volleyball down by the river. A town of 700 near it had a very large sand volleyball court. It's not that big of a deal. it's a very ordinary offering. And who has 6 people or more to play a volleyball game with him/her at all times anyway?

I've gone white-water rafting, once was enough. I've seen the mountains and oceans. I've been to the non-EDM fests where everyone is over 30. So these days when I get out to the trails, I always ask myself "now what"? Sure the scenery of _____ would make for a nice view when I'm looking out a window, but that's a big if.

Sound silly to you?

1.5/10.

Whitewater kayaking, for many worldwide is a thrilling form of both outdoor exercise and entertainment. Many people cross the entire country to partake in kayaking and whitewater rafting, both individuals and families. The nature of a thrilling sport is not to do it once but to repeat it over and over again for the entertainment and excitement and also for the exercise, also to hone the skills necessary to perform the sport. Id say repetition is obviously expected for this SPORT but how much repetition is expected for museum attendance? Sound silly to you?

You're missing the point. Different strokes for different folks. If what you said was true, why would the Art Institute or any other museum in Chicago have a yearly membership program? Like I said earlier, clearly your mind is made up. Open it if you want to see things from a different perspective.

I am not a big museum or art person, but there's plenty of other things to do in Chicago listed by several people on this thread other than whitewater kayaking. Chicago proper does not have whitewater kayaking to my knowledge, and I would assume that would not be a dealbreaker for less than 1% of the population that would consider living in or visiting the city.

It would be a significant draw. Otherwise, why, for example, would London have constructed one?
