The Hyde Park Summer Fest is scheduled to take place on June 17 & 18.

Its physical location is Midway Plaisance Park, near the University of Chicago campus. There will be entry gates at Ellis Ave. and Woodlawn Ave.

This fest is geared towards those who appreciate hip-hop, as well as those who enjoy the entertainment skills of house DJs.

Chicago cuisine, local breweries, and businesses based in Hyde Park will be featured here in one of Chicago's most iconic neighborhoods.

We typically go to MidSommar Fest in Andersonville, and we like the lower key Ravenswood on Tap one.

This year we'll also go to Wicker Park Fest now that we'll be living in that area here shortly.

Other than that, probably just the Air and Water show. So, likely we'll go to 4 total this year, maybe 5 of we're ambitious. I don't really consider the Air and Water Show a fest.

I remember liking West Fest(on Chicago east of Damen, forget the weekend it occurs on but the WTTW list probably mentions the weekend it occurs on), when I went in the past. And it didn't seem as overcrowded, as some summer street festivals can be like. Square Roots is a pretty good one, as well.

And while it's a little bit north, Skokie Backlot Bash(tends to happen in mid to late August) is another decent one worth checking out.

The annual Mole de Mayo Fest will be held May 26-28. Its site is 18th St. between Loomis St. (1400W) and Ashland Ave. (1600W) in Pilsen.

This festival will determine Chicago's favorite mole, with a competition between chefs, as well as restaurants. It will also have an open-air Mercado, with businesses based in Pilsen.

There will be 2 stages with live entertainment, as well as lucha libre wrestling ring. Also, there will be a professional wrestling demonstration.

Admission is free, but donations are suggested.

Yes, we've been to Square Roots, as we've lived in Lincoln Square for 4 years. Great fest, but last year, EXTREMELY crowded - took forever to get a beer.

Unfortunately, I realized about Mole De Mayo too late. Sounds like it would've likely been a good festival, had I been able to make that one. I hope they're able to stay in the location they hold this festival at, considering a few vocal residents were whining about the location of this fest. Not sure why, but it sounds like they were NIMBY types.
