The community areas with the highest number of recorded murders on the south side are Auburn Gresham, Englewood, Roseland, South Shore, and West Pullman.

On the west side, the deadliest neighborhoods are Austin, North Lawndale, and Humboldt Park. Austin has the highest number of reported murders of any Chicago community at nearly 70.

And don't forget the close to 300 and counting shootings and 20+ murders on the expressways this year that are not included in the Chicago stats. The vast majority were within the city limits.

Wow….that is grim. Many times you hear people mention it’s nowhere near as bad as it was in the 90’s, but that can’t be said this year. It is getting draining having to live here and hear these types numbers.

What I haven't seen mentioned is the fact that although 1974 holds the record as the year with the most murders in Chicago (970) our current rate is actually above that when you consider population numbers ( 3.3 million vs. 2.7 million today.) When you factor in a half-century's worth of life-saving medical advances, the picture only grows dimmer.

Yup, it seems to be criminality for the pure thrill of it. Same thing with that elderly Chinese man shot down last week, no reason really.

Also many of these violent carjackings, they're not doing much with the cars other than just going out joyriding and causing general trouble.

Crime being committed for the sake of committing it. It would behoove our elected officials to stop searching for the ever-evasive "root causes", and just start going after these guys, putting them away for a long time. If that requires expanding the courts and building more prisons, well that's what it requires.

Yup that’s why I recently decided to move out. This city’s going downhill very fast...

I believe those numbers are already factored in the 800+ homicides, considering CPD is reporting only 783 as of Dec 19th.

A handful of community areas or districts have actually surpassed their 90s stats, either in total murders or murder rates. Austin has seen more homicides and at a higher rate since 2016 than it ever had in the 1990s. Communities that were half decent such as Chatham have gotten worse. What is still far worse in the 90s when concerning stats are the shootings, stabbings, robberies, and sexual assaults.

I am no fan of Kim Foxx at all ( i cannot believe she got re-elected after the Smollett fiasco), but Mr. I unable to come to a budget and costing us billions Rauner? Seriously? Pritzker, who has raised the bond rating in the state saving us $ can do a better job in his sleep. Rauner has to be the worst governor in some time, absent Blago, who was just a corrupt narcisist.

Rauner was rolled by a Democratic supermajority. The bond rating increases are largely related to better than expected revenues during the pandemic. This pattern was seen across ALL states.
