Protests, yes. Riots, no.

Chicago finishes January with 42 murders.

Last year January was 49.

A little better.

It was reported in Network Open, which is a publication of the AMA, that the most violent ZIP code in Chicago is 60624. This area includes a swath of land on the West Side, centered in West Garfield Park and North Lawndale.

According to this publication, the risk of a man 18 to 29 years old dying in a shooting in this ZIP code was higher than the death rate for US soldiers in the Afghanistan war or for soldiers who fought in combat in Iraq.

I heard it reported recently there have been some 2,200 car thefts in Chicago this year.

And I don't mean year-to-date, but in the year 2023 -- IOW, in just the last 35 days.

That's a car stolen every 23 minutes, around the clock.

Here we go again: Man charged with Ford City Mall shooting has a history of gun arrests — and a history of being let off lightly

Remember these stories whenever some douche-womble in City Hall or the State House or wherever proposes we get "tough on guns" to "keep our children safe" and blah blah blah -- ask them why bother if you're just gonna treat violators with a series of wrist-slaps until they finally shoot somebody?

When The Regime continually goes easy on repeat offenders and endlessly promises to "crack down" on a growing swath of the instruments they use, it's hard to reach any conclusion other than their ultimate goal is more about disarmament than actual public safety. This kind of crap makes even the law-abiding start to resent not just the laws but those who enact and enforce them.

How is the crime these days in the downtown area? Keep hearing about stuff happening in streeterville where I used to live. Was never worried about crime precovid but supposedly its much worse now.
