That makes sense, given the verse in question.

Please point out in my post where I specified "believers" . . . and not "unbelievers" or anybody else conceivable. My caveat is similarly GENERIC. Someone is reading with a distinct bias.

How is it that you believe, "I see judgment as a negative?"
Do you lack sound judgment?

You're not fooling anyone. We were talking about the Bible encouraging believers to judge fellow believers in a positive way in order to help them back on the right path. That's when you cut in with your comment. No further comment. I have no interest in these games.

Now, I see, you pass judgment when it comes to another man's heart from that of your own.

Thanks for all the responses. I guess I believe we should judge people's actions but not the people themselves, remember that we all have been misguided at one point or another to one degree or another. It's good to give people advice/constructive criticism, especially if they want to better themselves and follow Jesus more closely; but don't pass judgement on the people (Leave that to The Father.)

Wasn't your point about self control to say that people should exersice self control so they can avoid judging people? Well, if judgment is a positive thing then your comment makes no sense. It makes sense only if judgement is seen as a negative thing. If you meant something else, you can just explain your point.

Indeed. The goal should be to help the individual, not to beat them down.

Think about what that means, and how it will impact the attitude with whcih you respond to what you perceive as sin in another person's life.

I think the emphasis of what Jesus said, is clearly and solely directed at the beam in our own eye, and not getting the beam out of our own eye so we can take the speck of dust out of our brothers. Seriously do you not see the brother with a speck of dust in his eye, is in a far better place to judge, than the brother who needs the beam taken out of his eye ?. Yet i will guarantee you the brother with the speck in his eye. trusts the Lord to remove the beam out of his brothers eye, rather than play God himself.

Also the verses "Elijah to come" quoted have nothing to do at all with what Jesus is saying, they are just verses that the carnal mind(the man who does not know himself) takes to justify judging his brother.

Take heed to what you listen to trettep.
