There is a verse that refutes Mary's perpetual virginity. Matthew 13:55-56: Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brethren James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? And are not all of his sisters with us?
.
Yes. And Jesus is referred to as Mary's firstborn son in Luke 2:7. Not as her only son. Mary was kept a virgin only until Jesus was born - Matthew 1:25.
Technically they were His half brothers and sisters because while they all had the same mother, Joseph was not Jesus' blood father.

Hi Mike and Merry Christmas. Thanks for clarifying that Joseph was not Jesus' blood father. However, it's interesting that Jesus had to come through the line of David in order for God to fulfill His promise to the Jews. Mary came from the lineage of Nathan and Joseph came from the lineage of Solomon both sons of David.
If the Virgin Mary had other sons, Jesus wouldn't have given her domestic
care to the apostle John, which He did at the cross.
Plus, according to the Protoevangelium of James, Mary was a consecrated
virgin of the temple.

Merry Christmas Antredd. I knew of course that you know that Joseph wasn't Jesus' birth father, but I just wanted to mention for the readers that Jesus' brothers were His half brothers though that still makes them real brothers. They were not his cousins as some people believe. I think the main purpose that Matthew had in presenting his gospel account was to show that Joseph could not have been Jesus' blood father because of the Coniah curse in which God said that Jeconiah would never have a son that would sit on the throne of David. That makes two reasons why the virgin birth was necessary. To be born free from sin, and to have the right to sit on David's throne.
First of all....she was not the mother of God. She was the womb that carried Jesus.
Second of all....why? What difference does it make if she had more children AFTER she gave birth to Jesus? I know the Bible says she was a virgin at the time of his birth, but there is no indication whatsoever that she remained a virgin.
RESPONSE:
Where in the Bible does it say that Mary was a virgin at the time of Jesus' birth?
Actually, Romans states that sin entered the world through a man, and a man (Jesus) will provide salvation. It's clear that it's the seed of the man that the sin nature is passed down through.
Who ate the apple first? Eve did. Yet, Adam was blamed....why? It's called Federal Headship. Adam was the "head" of Eve--he represented her, as he does all of mankind. Jesus is the 2nd Adam, and when we believe in him, we are a new creation -- without sin.
RESPONSE:
And you believe that actually happened? Or is just a story written between 900 and 700 BC to explain where man came from and why every living thing eventually dies??

If you check out II Samuel and II Chronicles, didn't the messiah have to be the biological son of both David and Solomon? (Nathan was was a king of Israel and hence could not be the forebearer of the messiah).

The Gospel does not say that Mary's care was given to the Apostle John. Read your New Testament more closely. And to whose house did Mary go? Was it within one hour of Jerusalem as the bible says?
The Protoevangelium is just a story written very long after the death of James. It's fictional not historical.

Matthew 1. It's not long, go read it.
