Questions like this always make me shake my head a little. Or a lot. The question is usually something alike the lines of "Why do Catholics believe X, Y and Z?" And 95% of the answers come from Protestants who. Oy.

Have you looked at the Greek? What convinced you that the word used indicates a cousin instead of brother?
Yes, the Greek word for brother would prove that without a shadow of a doubt. There is a Greek word for brother and there is a Greek word for cousin, and the Greek word for brother is used.
Joseph could have been a widower with children from his first marriage. He was older than Mary.
You are right, but the bible doesn't teach that Joseph was a widower. It would be a far fetched inference to make in regard to Joseph already having children from another woman, just like it is a far fetched idea to think that Mary remained a virgin when no where in Scripture teaches that Mary remained a virgin and remained sexless.

What's even more far fetched is that for 1,600 years for all Christians (Protestants too), including many who knew Mary personally, to affirmed her perpetual Virgnity, but people come along 1,600 years later and think they know better.
Is there a chapter and verse in the Bible stating this outright? No. Neither is there a chapter and verse for the Trinity. Or for sola scriptura. In fact, on the latter, there is actually chapter and verse stating the opposite.

RESPONSE:
Your claim is completely without any factual basis.
Name six individuals who affirmed Mary's perpetual virginity. Not even the writers of the Gospels, Epistles, or letters did that.
And how exactly did people born 100 years after Mary know anything about her perpetual virginity?
I think it is pretty obvious from the following two verses that Mary gave birth to other children after having given birth to Jesus.
Matthew 1:24 And Joseph awoke from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took Mary as his wife, 25]but kept her a virgin (eginōsken [Strongs #1097]; literally - did not know her; did not have sex with her) until (heós [Strong's 2193]; Adverb qualifying the verb 'gave birth' or 'brought forth' [until the time that]) she gave birth to a Son; and he called His name Jesus.
Luke 2:7 And she gave birth to her firstborn (prototokos [Strong's #4416] prṓtos, "first, pre-eminent" [Strongs 4413] /tÃktō, "bring forth" [Strong's 5088]) son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
Click on the following links and then click on the various words and Strong's numbers for meanings.
Matthew tells us that Joseph had sex with Mary very plainly in Mat. 1:25. Matthew tells us they did not have sex until after the birth of Jesus.
Luke tells us that Jesus was but the first born son of Mary. To be first there must be more than one.
And of course the accounts of Jesus' siblings.
This is why satan and his workers do not want you to have God's word in your language. You will be able to see there false teachings for what they are and know the truth of God.
The OP's question is "Why do Catholics believe that Mary was a Perpetual Virgin?". No one can speak for all the people who believe that but I would think it's because their church tells them they must accept that teaching.

The problem with this line of thinking is Sola Scriptura. In Catholicism there is much more than Sola Scriptura. The Church is guided by the Holy Spirit and if the Church says Mary remain a Virgin that is valid.
Protestants do not have to believe this. This concept is only for Catholics.
If the Pope says Mary was a Virgin then she is. The Pope is the Vicar of Christ. As a Protestant you are free to believe otherwise.
Rather odd logic to call the very means of our reproduction a sin And then call for this obvious eventuality...
