I guess my problem with that whole California fiasco is that they ruled that the issue was invalid AFTER they lost the vote. If the issue was invalid - that should have been taken up before the election. But they thought - 'hey, it's California, certainly the people will vote in gay marriage' - well, not so much. So they had to cheat to get what they want.

California has a proposition system. Basically ,anyone (citizen or state legislator) can write a proposition and gather signatures of registered voters. If enough signatures are gathered, it is put on the ballot. (There can be a dozen or more propositions on a ballot.) Massive amounts of money can be poured into campaigns as was illustrated with this proposition.

If it wins it becomes law. But if the legality of the law is challenged in court, and found to be illegal, it is overturned.

The gay marriage law was not special. Many propositions are later overturned in court.

(Clear back in 1972 a pot proposition was put on the ballot. Fueled mostly by students and hippies. All sorts of things are placed on the ballot through CA's proposition system. But if they're unconstitutional... out they go.)

This poll makes no sense - other than attempting to squelch viewpoints some don't want to hear.

I will say this ... I don't know what's worse - gay marriage, or the fact that judges overturn people's elected representatives in making up legal excuses to overturn state bans. The more I think about it, I think the judges actions are worse. It's one thing if the people want this - but they don't, if you go by elected representatives and how they voted on the issue. Gay marriage was banned in California... California... and that was voted on by the people. Then the judge overturned it. That alone should tell us that people are not crazy about this.

At the end of the day - people want to cheat to get pet legislation passed - fine. God watches all. He will deal with it as He sees fit.
Can we create laws just because we don't like something? Can we make laws discriminating against certain people just because we don't like them? If the majority of us hate tattoos, can we make them illegal? But then, getting a tattoo is a choice, being gay is not.

The Supreme Court struck down those so-called laws over a year ago. Laws that violate another persons rights are null and void. It was fully explained, laws like prop 8 and DOMA were overturned because they are unconstitutional. The tyranny of the majority cannot pass laws for the soul purpose of oppressing a minority simply because they don't like something. There was never any proof that SSM caused any problems or any harm to anyone. That was the burden of the opposition. The problem is, that the opposition enjoys conflating ignorance with the constitution, and rationalizing it as justified. For example, indicating that gay people are free to marry members of the opposite sex, therefore are not discriminated against, even though gays are not biologically capable of sexual attraction to the opposite sex.

I don't believe a Christian should protest. A Christian grounded in the Faith with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit knows that homosexuality is an abomination unto the Lord. He knows he is set apart from the world already. He/she will not be held accountable for it. The same can be said for abortion and a myriad of other issues.

Likely true.

But it does advance the cause of basic human rights and morality - something the bible has trouble doing.
