Jesus said, He put mother against daughter, father against son, put an enemy in the household for instance a converted Christian in the middle east of a devout muslim family. This individual will suffer hardship, persecution that can lead to torture and death. Jesus will not delude anyone into thinking that He calls believers to a life devoid of all conflict.
The immediate result of the gospel is frequent conflict.
And does that help when you explain that to an atheist who doesn't even believe in God?
Sin is simply a transgression of the law, a missing of the mark. Sin has consequences. Sure God detests sin, but any thinking individual will ask why does God allow sin then? Why did He even purpose that sin exist in His universe?
Look, its apparent you are only trying to test me to see if I meet the standard of how you think the gospel should be explained "rightly". Sorry I won't play that game while you simply ignore any questions I ask of you. I know what the good news is, and it does not contain any threats of bad news.
Sin was not called sin until the Law came to clarify it, the Law meaning what was handed down to Moses. Paul spoke of this. Through the law we are convicted of sin and made aware of it, therfore the next question is how to repent and reconcile ourselves to God. In old testament times it was rigorous and ritualistic. I feel God was yearning for the people to say, "Give us a solution to this curse because it is too much for us to reconcile. We are all wrong in your eyes and unable to be perfect. We are always sinning and need a final solution to depend on for your forgiveness."
He did just that when Christ was delivered up to the cross. Now we have a final solution. The sin is still clarified by the law but with the spirit of Christ inside of us, we now have this amplified in our being as we live in harmony with his will. He becomes a part of us and therefore we can discern quickly through the power of the spirit what is sin, and avoid it. the blinders come off for true Christians.
"Sin is "simply" a transgression of the law. You yourself have no clue on how exeedingly sinfulness sin is.....by stating the word "simply", there is nothing simple about sin-Sin eternally separates us from God and until you understand that you will never understand the true, FULL gospel.
I really don't care how I think it helps atheists, that is not for me to decide. That is the gospel and I only preach it- not for me to twist or better it from my vantage point, it is God who does the converting so I don't have to figure out how it works apart from what scripture says.

Smoking does all that too.....You have not explained sin rightly.."sin is wrong, it destroys"-that is an abstract incomplete way of explaining the consequences of sin but what is sin?....The Apostle Paul said, he did not know sin......... what is sin? How do I know I sin or am a sinner?

How about God abhors sin, that when we sin it is an offence, like the stench of vomit in God's nostrils which is why we must repent and turn from our wicked ways

Sorry Fundy, you yourself don't understand the gospel if you think sin can separate someone from God eternally, because it is the gospel that says Jesus takes away the sin of the world! How, pray tell, can sin separate someone eternally, if Jesus has taken away all sin?!?
If, due to sin, someone remains separated from God eternally, Jesus has failed. And that my friend is no gospel.
