Understand the meaning of what it is to be saved. Realize that you as a believer have eternal security. Read here what the word of God has to say about the eternal security of anyone who has made one simple act of faith in Christ Jesus. Here is what my pastor has written about this most important doctrine.
All who are deceived are confident they are not deceived. That is the essence of deception - the one deceived believes a lie. They are delusional.
2Th 2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
2Th 2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Does this mean you are confident you are not deceived or confident that you are deceived? Seems like your words have you caught between a rock and a hard place!
Good question!
To avoid deception we must apply to ourselves the tests given by the apostle John:
1 John 3:7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
1 John 3:6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not:
1 John 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil;
1 John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin;
1 John 3:10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
1 John 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
Men who try to deceive themselves and others will be exposed by those simple tests.
The delusion they fervently believe is the original lie Satan told Eve - even if you disobey God's commandment "YE SHALL NOT SURELY DIE".
We see this lie repeated in various ways such as Once Saved Always Saved, "Everybody will be saved" etc. "God will always forgive" etc. The common denominator is that all who are deceived continue to commit sin.
1 John 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
When one accepts Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour a true repentance whereby we have a change of mind and heart,we are convicted by the Holy Spirit and are wanting to be like Christ. They are saved through the blood of Christ for those who believe shall not perish but have everlasting life .
[/quote]
Joh 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath eternal life; but he that obeyeth not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him.
1 John 3:6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
When one stays away from the Lord their hearts begin to harden, they are steadfast in their own ways and desires and eventually they turn completely away from the Lord because they want to live in their own sin and this is dangerous because one will and I will use point of no return because they will have gone too far in their sin or belief to ever want to turn back to God.
Well said noland123. People can drift too far from God, including backsliders, so that they may never get back to shore. It's extremely dangerous.

Amen! It's faith in the the blood of Jesus that cleanses the sinner of all sin.
Regarding losing one's salvation, the prophet Ezekiel gives the answer.
Ezekiel 18
26 When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.
27 Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.
28 Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.

Are you saying that the blood of christ only works to cleanse sinners when the sinners have faith? Like in chemistry when you have to have two components to get another more useful chemical? Why isn't the blood of christ (in your mind) sufficient to wipe away all sin?

Now then sir, and don't anyone lump me in with the universalists, I am not one of those.
If you tell me that YOU do not sin I will call you a liar to your face, so on the basis of your test you have long since lost your salvation, perhaps every day you lose it.
Spurgeon used to say of this temporary salvation, this UNeternal life, "I would not cross the street for it" I agree, it is clearest thing in the world to see that you have ceased [if you ever did] to trust in Christ and Christ alone for your salvation, now it depends upon YOU. You started in the spirit and now you will finish in the flesh.
This is exactly what those scriptures in Hebrews 6 means, you have fallen away from simple faith in the cross, if the cross was not suffient to save you there remains no further sacrifice for sin, you must now face God's judgement, I urge to fly to the cross and there trust Him and Him alone for your salvation. You have not endured to the end in your battle of faith, Satan has told you a lie and you believed his way rather than God's way of salvation.

I think it's down to misunderstanding the finished work of the Cross, God calls the things that are not as though they were

Because that is a path to apathy and magic. In that God doesn't interfere with our free choice. Nor does He upon the death of a believer make them into something that they are not.
If they are filthy that shall remain filthy still.
If they are righteous they shall remain righteous still.
There is nothing God doesn't see.
The blood of Christ allows us the mercy of growing from grace to grace...not to excuse, willfull or lazy sin.
We are more than conqueror's .
Jesus can lead us into perfection, he doesn't use a magic wand to make us something we are not.
We have the tools, of Heart, Mind (spirit) and body, to rise to the opportunity to serve the One that makes it possible for us to become like Him.
And best of All He can give us His Holy spirit that we can be led into All truth.

Thanks for proving my point.

Then sir your salvation is not worth tuppence, it is about as useful as a soiled rag for you are reliant upon your own ability which you confess is not adequate to keep you unto eternal life.
The moment you put a condition upon grace, it is grace no longer, your salvation is based upon works not grace.
