Who want to pay union dues, live in a middle class neighborhood and own a new car when you can keep your whole paycheck and live in a double wide and drive a 15 YO pickup?

The UAW starting pay is $14 per hour. You cannot afford many new cars and a big, new house on that pay.

$14 per hour is not a livable wage in my opinion. At the core of any union is a group of hard working Americans who are doing good work and feeding their families.

And only reinstated because of the union. I know cause I have to deal with the teamsters on a day to day basis. Know how the union backs workers even if they screw up. Thats the downfall of unions. A bum is a bum. Fire them. There are plenty of people out of work that would love a good job and would not be smoking dope on the clock

I remember when Renault tried to build & sell cars in the United States, back in the mid-80s. They had abysmal quality control, and it quickly became obvious that one of the problems was a whole line of bars across the street from the factory. If you got a car that was assembled on Monday or Friday, you were straight-up screwed.

I strongly suspect that Chrysler will eventually pay a high price for this.

Personally, I'd rather buy a car that was assembled by people who WANT to keep their jobs, rather than bozos who know they cannot be fired, no matter how horrible their work.

Not the hard working folks that are the issue....it is the drunks and stoners.

He didn't paint a group of people one way or another. He linked to an article in which the pertinent facts were:

1. Workers smoked dope and drank on the job.
2. Said workers were fired.
3. Said workers were reinstated through union arbitration.

Way to jump to conclusions.

Jobs have to be found for all drunks and stoners, in order to have full employment. They are among us -- what's to be done?

Some of the best mechanics I have ever known did their best work while stoned or relaxed after a couple of drinks .
