You have to understand, sports teams losing is much less common in Columbus than Cincinnati. I'm sure Columbus residents who attended the game were confused. Hopefully, some Cincinnati residents were there council them on loss, even if it will never be as perpetual as down on the Ohio.

Guess third place keeps the fanclub beating their chest extra hard - Napoleon would be proud.
Columbus started 20-30 years after Cleveland and Cincinnati, and did not become the dominant growth leader until much later, when both of the other 2 already had much larger city and metro populations. I mentioned the 1940 census in the another post, and even though Columbus was significantly smaller than the other two, it had reached the point where it was growing faster. It still takes time to catch up, however. Columbus will likely pass up Cleveland before 2020, but since Cincy's metro is growing, it's going to take longer. The trend, however, has been clear for 80 years.

Well, when your OSU-obsessed city's favorite sports team has a win-at-all-costs coach who looks the other way in the face of multiple NCAA infractions and when your star QB (Terrell Pryor) comes from a poor family but is rolling around campus in a fully loaded Lexus SUV with dealer plates, it's kind of hard to lose, huh?

Yet, despite all the winning, the Columbus team never seems to really win the big one.

What I mean is that they are reaching some sort of equillibrium in power and influence. The GDPs of the 3 are not all that different (between $98 and $115 billion), the metro populations are not all that significantly different, name recognition is approaching the same level, etc. I think this is what makes the 3-C debates so interesting. They all have strengths and weaknesses, but they are also fairly evenly matched.

I'm sure some people in Columbus did go to Wal-Mart, like people in any other city. Or maybe they went to really upscale places like Burberry or Henri Bendel, stores that aren't found in Cincinnati. Congrats on finally getting a Nordstrom down there though, they've been in Columbus and Cleveland for years.

By the way, how'd Cincinnati's MSA growth stack up to Columbus' between 2010 and 2011 - about 1/3 the growth? Must be a lot of people that prefer cow-tipping.
Wow, keep reaching for the stars Cowlumbus. Nothing like knocking a team out of the NHL's bloated "playoff picture" to create lasting sports memories, huh? You'll be telling your grandkids years from now about that one time you kept the Avs out of the playoffs. Meanwhile, I'm sure the Avs, with their two Stanley Cup banners, will get by.

And what would more people rather have, Burberry or IKEA? I'm sure the overwhelming choice in Cowlumbus would be IKEA. And I'm willing to bet that you shop at Burberry or Henri Bendel as often as I shop at Saks Fifth Avenue or Tiffany & Co., both of which are in our downtown. What do you have downtown?

You know, Columbus would have an MLB team if it wasn't for Marge. It's ironic that people say Columbus is just a college town when it was another Ohio city that prevented a major franchise from coming there.

Except none of what happened with the players and Tressel had anything to do with what happened on the field. They were all wrong for what they did and they did damage to the university, but I'm not sure how it gave them a competitive advantage. Further, the coach and players were punished and the team just had one of their worst seasons ever. And they will still be paying the price a few more years. However, a top 25 class and a new coach will probably ensure not too many losses even if they can't go to a bowl game.

The Blue Jackets are Columbus' Bengals. I guess every major Ohio city has to have their black sheep.

Except the Bengals occasionally do win the division and make the playoffs (twice in the past three years). Once in a blue moon they even get to the Super Bowl, unlike their Ohio friends to the north. Meanwhile, the BJ's (nice name, by the way) have never so much as won a single playoff game - in a sport, mind you, where more than half the teams make the playoffs in any given year!

And don't use the excuse that they've only been around 12 years. The Florida Marlins won two World Series during their first 12 years. So did the Arizona Diamondbacks.

And you have the BJ's best player (Rick Nash) literally tripping over cows to get out of C-bus.

By the way, who's playing at Polaris this summer? I'd like to check out a concert.

Sports seem to be very important to you, so........when will Cincinnati host NCAA tournament games like Columbus did this year, and in 2004 and 2007 and probably again in another 3 or 4 years. Any chance Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson are in Cincinnati for a tournament this year? I'll see them in Dublin at the Memorial, but wasn't sure about the PGA tour stop in Cincy.
