Kasich is a pure a**h***. We'll vote him out of office in 2014 but the problem is that he will do a whole lot of damage to this state until then!!!

Perhaps Kasich does have an agenda which favors Columbus. Buit when Strickland, who I personally felt did a good job, advocated his policies he was attacked vehemently. Maybe that just comes with the territory these days, same as the President. I feel the defeat of SB#5 is the nail in the coffin of Kasich. He will be a one term governor unless the Republican machine can manufacture more votes out of the rural areas. To me it will come down to the state of employment in Ohio. This did Strickland in and likely will do the same for Kasich.

Having lived in Cleveland too, I can tell you there is no love loss for Kasuck there either...how did this state allow that loser to win an election...he nearly ruined the casino deals...he's an awful governor...one in a long string of awful governors this state has had...he cares nothing about the 2 best cities this state has, that being Cincinnati and Cleveland...all Columbus is, is a sprawled out sprawlburbia waste land save for my alma mater Ohio State (who doesn't get enough state funding either...non of the our public universities do).

Downtown still has far to go, but it's night and day from what it was in 1999 when Coleman first came into office." Can't be too hard on you; I counted the word "cowtown" used only once--but, then again, the entire exchange between the BOTH of you of was only two sentences long. (oh well...)

P.S. One question... In 1999 when Mayor Michael Coleman began his cleanup of Columbus--did he actually herd all the cows out of the corridors of the statehouse himself--or did he assign that task to a state trooper?
Someone who posts on city boards, especially Ohio ones, is going to know this term. And I wasn't agreeing with the use of it, I was agreeing about Mayor Coleman, but nice try.

What's ironic here is that you're pushing this idea that Columbus really is just a "cowtown" and yet it consistently is the only city in the state where people want to move to. Guess a lot of people really like cows. After all, who doesn't like a good hamburger?

Although it's been the contention that Kasich is some kind of "Columbus Super Weapon," best deployed against Cleveland and Cincinnati, we probably would agree on a larger realization--he's nobody's friend (not even Columbus). As both jbcmh81 and several others have pointed out in various posts, this governor of ours has done almost as much damage to the capital as he has done to the other two cities. Cincinnati's business community might publicly laud his occasional local appearances, but they secretly fear his ulterior motives (and I'm certain that such apprehension is also felt in Cleveland). But in Columbus itself? No white knight in shining armor either...

Not long ago I quipped that, in "our struggle for supremacy," Cleveland and Cincinnati best regard Columbus like the Russians and Americans eyed Berlin in 1945--and that we descend upon it from opposite corners of the state and divide the conquered city in the middle. (admittedly a frivolous analogy stretched to the limit)

However, I ask that that we consider a more serious WWII analogy--the portrayal of Columbus as Kasich's Berlin... After all, our capital is his private palace and personal fiefdom, the base of operations for the exploitation of his vassal state, the stage for his grandiosity, and the backdrop of his prestige. And while I won't go so far as to suggest that Kasich harbors friends and associates the likes of Goebbels, Goring, Himmler, or Bormann, I will assert that his government and business connections have melded into a cadre of scoundrels who bilk the state's coffers in every conceivable way. Sure, it can be surmised that all governors do that (and maybe they do...), but not to the extent of Kasich and his cronies. For this shadowy cast of miscreants, Columbus is little more than their personal playpen. And that brings up the last observation in this extensive analogy. Does Kasick favor Columbus or like Columbus? Yes and no. As previously suggested, it is his public playground, the epicenter of his power, and the city he calls home. But Kasich likes Columbus about like Hitler loved Berlin. ( Need I say more?) Kasich's henchmen, like the marauding vultures they are, will pick an unaware Columbus clean. Look out!

Okay, jbcmh81... Admittedly I'm having great fun with the recent direction of this thread, but why not? The very title of the thread provides the license for a tremendous range of responses (from the scholarly and serious to the lame and laughable). So, while the sun is still shining, I'm going for it! And, like I've quipped before, Columbus just naturally lends itself to outlandish merriment. Not so with Cleveland--now that city is a more formidable opponent and requires a more devious strategy to be knocked out of the box--but they're next and they know it!

For Columbus to be so dominant, why does it take folks coming over to the Cincy boards to prove it? Laughable, to say the least. Is this the "fake it till you make it" strategy?

Did folks in Columbus go cow-tipping last night after their minor league AAA opening night loss vs. Louisville?

Or maybe they went to Wal-Mart.
