didnt Denver refuse to host the winter olympics previously?
it's not that they refused, what happened was that they forgot that they had agreed to host and when the athletes showed up they did a and said that we thought it was the next one!
All homerism aside, I honestly think a Minneapolis or Minneapolis/St Paul Olympics would be good, but that's a stretch, so otherwise I'd choose Boston, then Chicago, then Seattle.

I think Seattle would be a bigger stretch than Minneapolis. But, given that Chicago was snubbed by the IOC, I'd like to see them get it. There are at least a dozen cities in The US that have/will have the necessary infrastructure to host The Olympics; but the event has gotten so large that only the highest-profile cities are likely to be considered.

Oh my gosh...Denver is never going to live that down. I still think it would be perfect to host the summer or winter olympic. Not the best choice for the summer olympics though.
I'd take L.A. off the table because it's hosted twice already (although it's now even better suited than in '84 and would probably cost the least). So give Philly, Chicago, or Miami a go at it.
For Winter I'd elect not Denver but Colorado Springs, since that's the U.S. Olympic training center now and it would have many of the facilities necessary.
