I agree. they drown the food in all sorts of juices to where you can no longer taste the meat.
I like my food on the drier side. leave the sauces to the side so that I can selectively add flavor. don't drown the thing in it.
I'm the same way. I don't just mess with anyone's sauce.
When ordering a taco or burrito, often the only "wet" thing I'll put on there is guacamole and maybe some pico (hold the chilis). But at most places, while the food is often very good, the sauce can be hit or miss.
Another Mexican restaurant I really like is in Tucson (La Parrilla Suiza). Every Mexican place I've been in Tucson was amazing, and I'll be sure to check out that one too.
I never understood the large amount of gringo Mexican food snobs. 90% of what I hear coming out of these peoples mouths contradicts what actual Mexicans tell me.
I'll hear "well place x isn't authentic" from the gringo.... but then the actual Mexican will tell me how it's the real deal and good.
I swear, some of these people like to trash food places for the sake of trashing something.

Lol, got some good Taco truck food saturday. Screw all that sauce nonsense, the meat tasted good.
To be honest tho, I can't really remember the food we had in NM. I spent a week in Taos, I have visited Santa Fe a couple of times, I love Albuquerque, but I just can't remember the food. Its been more than 4 years since my last visit, but nothing jumps out at me

Mexico is not homogeneous either. Many Americans think all Mexican food is the same so when they eat Mexican somewhere else that's from a different Mexican state than they're accustomed to, they'll probably think it's supposed to taste like what they're used to.

Around here you find tons of excellent (authentic) mexican joints. On top of that, you will also have a lot of mexican friends. The best mexican meals are the home made ones made by their parents or grand parents.
I say Philadelphia. Because of the superior quality of the food itself, even with the much smaller Mexican pop, Philadelphia's Mexican food shines, especially at the high end. In the area near the Italian Market you can find the entire range of Mexican cuisine. One restaurant, Las Bougabilias, stands out by being better than any other Mexican restaurant I've been to, in either the United States or Mexico. Given that it is 1 of my favorite cuisines, and the fact that I have traveled extensively, it is a bold statement that I am certain many will disagree with but I will stand by it!

Very good point
