Doesn't it? Haha. I actually did not know that about San Diego... I've only ever eaten tacos there. The tacos are delicious.
California Burritos are delicious, but anything they are just a fat, white, American twist on the burrito. Not something I would order now but in high school or college I definitely would.
While I do agree that Mexican food is often over-simplified to tacos and burritos, I can't say that was the case where I grew up... I grew up in a predominantly latino town known for its Michoacan population (Redwood City) so I grew up eating just about anything Michoacan. Michoacan pastries, tamales, tortas, tacos, etc. are some of what remind me of home the most and I'm not even latino lol.
Haha same with me, I am from Santa Maria which is heavily Hispanic. Though the tastes of the local Hispanic population is more geared toward barbequeing or burritos. But any time I got home the first place I go is a Mexican joint (for a town of 100,000 there are a lot of options )

Same here. I also grew up with alot of Mexicans and ate alot of their food and even Mexican snacks but mostly when I was younger.
To be honest I havent had alot of authentic Mexican food in years.
If Mexican-fusion is your thing, you'd look to Los Angeles first.
I'm sorry but LA doesn't spring to mind when I think of Polish cooking. Chicago, Pittsburg, Detroit, yeah; LA, no.
Not to mention Lithuanian and Bohemian chow. How's alambres and kugelis sound? Zeppelins ala Mexicano? Burritos stuffed with pork tenderloin? Chile sauce over potato dumplings?
