Yes if you talking about culture.

I think New Orleans has quite a lot of potential to become a world class city. You have to remember, 50 years ago it was considered world class. It has such a unique culture that is rather worldly in of itself being developed from the influences of several different cultures.

Las Vegas is world-class as a tourist destination, but not as a city.

On the cultural end, it's worthy of a debate, and even with post-Katrina, the city's cultural identity took a hit. Other than that, no.

In colonial times, NO was a dominant economic frontier. I thought that was worth mentioning.

Only NYC, LA, Chicago, San Francisco, and maybe DC should be considered world class.

How can they be world class when they aren't located in the northeast?

Maybe 150 years ago, not 50.

No, but honestly while I like Seoul and Singapore they don't really hold up to London, NYC, Paris, or Tokyo either.

Why on Earth not 50 years ago? New Orleans was one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world at that time for "sinful" activities while Las Vegas was still a bunch of casinos with a few having really luxurious motor courts attached....not much different from today but now it attracts tourists from all over the world rather than just those on road trips from California.
