New Orleans really can't hold it's own to the best. I mean, really? Are you really trying to pit N.O. with NYC, LA, and Chicago lol? It may be somewhat urban, but urbanity does not mean it's a world class city. NOLA is trumped hard by Houston just a few hudred miles away.

And NOLA's urbanity is so overrated. It's not even close to the historic NE cities, Chicago, or SF.

New Orleans was once a world class city (before the Civil War). It is not anymore. IMO it is still a world class destination, but not a world class city. IMO the US has about 4-8 world class cities (NYC, LA, Chicago, DC, probably San Fran, possibly a few others depending on your definition) and NOLA is not in the top ten.

Las Vegas is not a world class city. It never has been and I would be surprised if it ever is. It is probably a world class destination though.

Chicago isn't anymore world class than San Francisco. Both are major international business centers. Both have world renown attractions, both have Michelin guides for fine dining, both have top tier museums, both are served by the same amount of foreign airlines. I'm kind of lost on how Chicago is in another tier?

Even outside of the core, which is only the Quarter and CBD. Most cities in America have large swaths of suburban type build everywhere. Even suburban New Orleans is built on a grid miles away from city limits.

No one is saying it's world class in this thread, and no one is comparing it to NYC, LA, and Chicago, but out of cities between 1-2m MSA, it's the only one that can hold it's own and beat them in some categories.

Hence that's why I said pound for pound otherwise you are right it can't hold its own against those BIGGER cities.

Also you are right Houston trumps NOLA economically but NOLA trumps them urban wise and culture wise FACT!!

World Class Cities? No, certainly not.

They're certainly unique cities with a huge tourist industry, but you can't confuse that with being a world class city on a global stage.
