I don't think people need to validate their preference for one city over another - it's often just personal taste. For instance, I prefer Fort Worth over Dallas. I could give my reasons but they'd basically boil down to the fact that Fort Worth fits my personality better.
True to a point.Having never been to either is the key difference.Especially when they are so similar options.
How do you prefer something over another if you don't know much about each place?
Is Austin quite a small town feel though? Probably smaller than Charlotte I would have thought.
Ha why do you think san fran? I don't fancy being in a high risk earthquake zone otherwise it would have been my number 1 choice

Yes, Austin is smaller than Charlotte, and yes, I would say it feels smaller as well. But Austin is a cool city.

REALLY? Now we are on EARTHQUAKES?!!LOL>
Well Austin and Dallas are in high Tornado zones.
Tampa gets Hurricanes !
Houston has a vapid Tejano "gangster" culture you wont be able to escape with all those guitar, singers and horn players performing their music all over the city thereby causing traffic accidents by distracting drivers with their flashy Rhinestone's flashing off their bedazziling attire.

Why would you not consider a high risk earthquake zone before you moved somewhere new? Are you a moron or something who doesn't think about these things?
Tornadoes you get warnings about and dallas hasnt really been hit by major ones despite being in tornado alley it hasnt had any catastrophic ones like many other cities. San fran is due a huge 8 or 9 quake and you will have no warning

And London has been overdue for a major earthquake for a while.

Your comment led me to look that up. An article I just read said the biggest earthquake that London can expect every 100 years or so is a 5.5 magnitude quake. There's a HUGE difference between that and a magnitude 8 or 9. Each increase of 1 on the Richter scale indicates an intensity 10 times stronger. A 5.5 earthquake causes relatively minor damage (according to that article). San Francisco, on the other hand, will be in mighty bad shape when the "big one" hits.

I agree. Ive read alot about it and youre right it will really mess up san fran. Thankfully they have built alot of buildings to withstand alot of the shock. Seattle is due a huge one too about 9 with possible tsunami threat too. I personally dont like those odds! Seattle haven't really prepared their architecture for this though.
The guy who laughed at me for taking into consideration an earthquake threat city is a moron in my opinion lol.
